i know digger at least will understand :-)

  • Go up to Lewis Leathers in Whitfield Street, G... Ask for Derek Harris, tell him you're a friend of mine... Their boots are gorgeous...

  • I'm off to pick a pair of Caribou's I've managed to track down. Warm dry feet for me.

    Carry on brogue lovers ;)

    These ones?

May just be Amazons stock, but smallest size available is a 12?

  • ^ i've found quite a lot on ebay in sizes smaller than 12

  • i went to switzerland recently, and everybody is wearing those sorel's
there is a meindl version too

  • lewis make beautiful boots. i love the version they make with the quilt stitch leather shin and upper foot patch. but it was the dreaming of going to lobb and paying £4,000+ for a pair of bespoke motorcycle boots that momentarily appealed to me. it was just a dream it wont happen.

re sorel - i have the alpine design version, super warm.

  • My mate Derek bought the company a few years back, he single-handedly brought the quality back to what it was when he was buying stuff to go to Japan for his old firm... Mr Lewis wanted to retire so sold up to him, Derek's done a great job... One day I'll go in and get measured up for the Aviakit Corsair I've been promising myself since I was about 19...

  • Agreed, ace ^

  • nice jacket, i met the owner once maybe two or three years ago.

They're £180 here. But one chain had them in the Janurary sale for around £100. Took a morning of phoning their various shops in the aera, but I managed to track down a pair in my size and have it sent to the shop over the road. I was after the brown but the ladie in the shop said they had champagne. I assume thats the yellow/biege colour above. Which is fine.

The import factor (which not all sorel caribous have) is the removable inner wool sock. means when every one else leaves their snow covered shoes outside you can bring your liners in and put them by the fire. hmmmmmmmm.

    Anyway sorry folks, brogues.

  • Reheeling: is it worth getting steel tips or should I just go for the standard rubber?

  • Depends if you wish to clatter around like a tap prancer, and go sliding along any polished hard surface.

  • Obviously not. It would only be the very edge along the back, where the material is most vulnerable. Apparently my Grandfather used to have it done on all of his shoes while they were still brand new.

this place does an awesome job of metal tips

  • there was an old saying about people that had heels quarter tipped in metal,,,,i'll try to find it.

until i find it.....if they are quarter tipped make sure you keep them well polished and looking smart. if your going to draw attention to your feet give people something nice to look at when they do look down.

  • I used to get Blakey's on all my shoes... Only way to go...

  • Ha, nice advice there!

    A question then Gerald:

they're black leather with a matt finish and I'm reluctant to shine them up too much. How do I get the prolong the matt while still looking aftre them properly?

  • I used to get Blakey's on all my shoes... Only way to go...

    Dear Mr Nike

I added some blakeys to my hipster Air Jordans and they went a bit flat.

    Yours

    Joey

  • you could use a neutral cream or polish them in the normal way and brush them lightly to remove the excess polish but not buff them. that should work.
