much as I don't like to agree with Pisti- Trickers are the shit.
My dad has a pair that are older than me- still going strong after numerous resoleings. My Polish Technique:
Polish on with soft cloth, quick rub in using cloth, reapply some to brush. Buff in one plane all way over shoe with first brush (usually stiffer or marked as polish on).
Switch brushes, buff again with new brush in opposite plane.
Finish up with a light wiping of the cloth, and potentially a bit more brushing.
maximum of 5 mins I reckon. -

I just bought the ones of Asos for £25, my housemates at uni have Grensons and Trickers, this is all I can do to compete.
Does anyone have any tips for not keeping desert boots in good nick, I've gone through a pair a year for the last 4years! Should I use a protector on them or something?
Clarks desert boots or otherwise? The classic Clarks ones are shite quality. Leather or suede? The leather ones are made from a really cheap waxy leather. Jones the Bootmakers do a good cream for exactly such leather. If they're suede give them a good going over with a rubber suede brush and use a good quality spray-on protector. Scotchguard?

Can anyone recommend a good clear polish or cream for my jam shoes
I've been using Proofide as I had some lying around, but it's £10 for a little tin that doesn't go very far

Grenson tan brogues are my weapon of choice.
My Ralph Lauren purple lable black shoes are also made by Green and Son (grenson).
Let's have a look then...?

If you're investing in a pair of fine english shoes you should consider jumping on the train to Northampton, we've got Church's, Loakes, Barkers, Trickers et al in the town and surrounding villages, and most of them have factory shops with awesome bargains.

I was very close to getting some Trickers a few years back but didn't think I'd wear them enough to justify the outlay... I have been wearing my Irish Setters a hell of a lot this winter so maybe now's the time to invest in a decent pair of gents ones and twos...
Definitley brogues, definitely boots, definitely black... -

Good shout, a pal of mine is from Northhampton so I had him do a reccy, but they (Tricker's) didn't have the right style/size/colour combo.

I've heard there's a place in London that does bespoke leather boots for £120. It has to be a lie! Anyone know anywhere that will make a pair of shoes from an existing pair? I have the best brogues ever but they were made of cheap materials and have no give to the insoles anymore and are falling apart "to boot".

I got lovely square toed suede boots in Florence about... ooh... 12 years ago.
Still look as good now! Leather quality makes a huge difference.

Or maybe because you're working class you only get to wear them for weddings and funerals?
That's how I make them last.

Kiwi Parade Gloss is the best polish, apply a very small amount with a soft cloth and a bit of water (or spit) leave to dry to a haze, buff off with good brush and buff to a shine with polishing cloth. For best results repeat.

Shouldn't this thread be changed to 'Proper leather SOLED shoes'?

lobb make beautiful brogues that will last forever but are so expensive even second hand.
i have a pair of church that have been loyal for many years. church had a rule i heard that if their shoes had been resoled by somebody else they would not do a refurb on them. this may or may not be true. worth noting though,, just in case.others to look out for are sanders , jones and jm weston
Good advice!
