It is, really, isn't it? I suppose they know that they've made some profit already on the shoe - they only repair their own. Plus, now that I know I can get them spruced up and that they'll last an age, I'm more willing to buy from them in the future.
It's still more expensive than buying cheap £50 Asos brogues once a year, but there's something lovely about the idea that I could have these shoes for decades, even if it is a bit Ship of Theseus (sp?).
Totally the way to do it, they're deliberately made to be repairable rather than trying to hawk you a replacement pair every couple of years. I like this ethos. Also means another pair of loveless shoes doesn't need to be shipped from China and some highly skilled craftsman keep making a living.

Rules. I hate rules and rarely follow them. But am I chancing too much by partnering these tan beauties with black trousers ? It's for a wedding where I'm the groom. Dark grey jacket/black shawl lapel, black trousers and the Grensons. The whole world and his wife say no but what does a cycling forum think ?

dr martens for life @ £112 represents very good value for money i think. bad luck for them if you work on building sites or in situations where footwear can really take a hammering.

They have a no-industrial-use clause in their T&Cs I think. Took a look yesterday. If they were a bit more attractive I'd have a pair. What do you think of them at motorcycle boots? Not enough protection?

Rob, can't you splash out and get some black ones (racist) seeing as it's your wedding?
Maybe these:
http://www.tresbienshop.net/brand/trickers/woodstock-black
or these:
http://www.thebureaubelfast.com/shop/product/1328/trickers-black-keswick-deby-brogue/
These are especially sexual:

Otherwise I don't see anything wrong with tan shoes and black trousers if that's what you want!

tan/brown shoes only work with blue trousers/suit IMHO - black suit and brown shoes you've just come out of court for a minor offence

what colour shirt and tie?
White collarless shirt, so no tie. Choice of tan is so they can be worn on and off for years to come so although lovely, those blacks are out of the question. I'm keen on, alright OBSESSED with, my outfit having a practical longevity paired with other bits as time goes by.
There's a chance I may go for a grey trouser paler than the non matching jacket, in this case tan brogues will be super fine. In addition, and all feel free to wet yourselves in horror or joy, I'm replacing the top button of the shirt and the shoe laces to matching colours. Probs a nice mint green, tie the top of the ensemble to the bottom so to speak. A risk yes but I first rode my Olmo fixed as a single speed with only one front break, wait no that didn't work and nearly killed me.
Oops!
Either way, come the first reveal I shall post a snap of the Grensons and whatever they end up going to the ball with. -

is it going to be a gypsy wedding perchance?
Yes ! I'm also sporting a piss stained vest and a sticky film of spilt Stella.
No, I just don't much care for "It's a wedding so you must look like this, eat that, go on honeymoon to here, live a hollow desperate life in an awful house with a Nintendo Wii, Pizza hut on speed dial and some tropical fish, dreaming of a DFS reclining sofa."Not having a stag do neither, god I can't think of anything worse. No when I get married I stick it to THE MAN, in mis-matched clothes and ubiquitous brogues.
Anyway ladies and gents, as you were. Back to shoes............ -

Went into Clark's to get a new pair of desert boots, pretty much my standard issue footwear, and spied these:
I hope someone's digging hard in a Siberian salt mine for this.

as you stick it to the man try not to wear anything that will be too cringe-worthy in a five/ten years time. but in saying that i also accept that warm hearts and smiley faces are more inportant than 'nice garms' in wedding photos.

Went to a wedding in Norfolk last weekend, matched a mid-grey pin-check suit with a blue Oxford shirt, brown brogues and no tie. A pissed up Irish bloke said I looked cool.

Have been longingly looking at longwing brogues in cordovan
Yum. These are serious shoes and well out of my range.
