  • If you'd headed away from London then back in when you did that century the other day you could have done some nice riding in Hampshire, surely?

Your routes always look like the work of an erratic spider :P

Yeah, I just don't know my way around Hampshire... And that'll be because I don't plan any routes - ha. I just go where I feel like. I need to start planning routes... And get a Garmin with maps.

  • Head down to the South Downs national park- lovely area.

  • I managed to get one last one in to bring in the new year... and get my 25% badge. Oh well. Congrats to everyone who completed it this year!

Rode around Sakurajima, an active volcano, in pitch darkness. Nearly nailed a wild boar at speed on a descent and rode through a cloud of volcanic ash (that I couldn't see until I was in it because it was dark). Then picked up a couple of beers and some fried chicken, sat by the bay and watched the fireworks and listened to the ships sound their horns at midnight. Good times.

    Happy new year, everyone!

  • Respect for al those who completed the 500!!

  • So Paddy Dunne came top in the UK for the Festive 500, again, and third overall, despite being over 50 and having an off on Christmas Day morning on black ice which involved a visit to A&E and a hairline fracture to his elbow :O

I think I remember reading last year that he's an agricultural worker and he was working between doing rides: proper physical work, not a desk job.

He's upset he didn't come first!

    Bonkers.

  • Tried the first time. 503km.
If you wanna see some images and read some boring german words, check my blog.

    Bonkers.

is Cycle_dr1 a pro cyclist? 200km + rides seems nothing to him..

  • Yeah, he rides for Canyon I believe.

  • Actually I think I'm wrong. I've no idea what the deal is with him.

  • This is his website:
    http://cycledr.com/

He's been in Australia since at least the start of December and did his Festive 500 there.

His Strava profile says his weekly average is 867 miles a week and his rides are protected.

  • 200km + rides seems nothing to him..

As his rides are protected I'm not sure how you know that, but 200km isn't actually that far!

Matsuoka Hiromasa, who came second, finished off with a 415km ride, standard audaxes go up to 600km and hippy (on here) did 833km in 24 hours ;)

  • I rode from Bordeaux to Paris with him this year. He did the 620km in 21 hours. The next morning he got up and rode to Calais to get the ferry home then back on the bike from Dover to Putney.

    He's a tough guy.

  • Good work by everyone who completed the 500 this year.

Especially that fucking maniac dammit who did it twice using different methods. Wtf.

  • Glutton for punishment but he doesn't drink so he has to find something else to fill the time when normal people are working off hangovers and shit like that. :P

  • He's a Kiwi. They're well hard.

  • The only ones left survived the swim to Australia and found the dole office before starving.

  • So everyone who completed the challenge are the lucky ones, who can buy a Rapha 500 t-shirt for $65 plus exchange rate. Wow.

  • Interesting; what do you think double that selling on here to the Rapha slouches?

  • It seems you can buy up to 10?

  • 500km in one go. In the rain.

  • Props.

  • Yup. They've just reached Brussels for me, where it's tanking down.

  • Yep launderettes with tumble dryers can be an issue on the continent.
