  • Got to post for PM. Had to modify my Gazzetta for Finland's winter :)

  • I have to have bike for my school trips also

  • Tempted to buy some 35c World tour tyres for my Steamroller in case it snows, but can't be sure it would snow much here

Are they really gonna be the best snow tyre? World Tour's are what I run on 3 of my bikes just as matter of course.

  • No point doing half-measures, just get these and keep them in reserve for next year if we don't get snow this year.

  • ^the Marathon Winter is AWFUL on slushy stuff, and no different to anything else in deeper loose snow. Very good on ice and hardpack though.

  • Yes, spikes for ice, mud tyres for powder.

  • Anywhere where the roads are cleared, and/or the snow is compressed. The winter marathon works really well. Its an extreme winter road tyre, and a great one at that.

Its not intended for uncleared snow, or soft surfaces.

  • I think my pair are in my workshop somewhere, I'll have to dig them out.

At least that will guarantee fine weather this winter

  • My current snow tyres are hookworms. The cargo bike is the only one currently functional with tyres over 25mm.

I'm hoping the colossal weight will keep it behaved.

Wont be the best no, but i'm sure they will work okay, for the price...

They seem to do pretty well in lightly icey conditions, probably just coz they're big and the bikes I have them on are slow, but think they'll lack drive in snow.

  • my winter steed.

  • Scarlett pointed me in the direction of these beauties. Schwalbe Winter 30c which are playing nicely with narrow SKS Chromoplastics AND he found them for £39 delivered for the pair at www.action sports.de

  • Are you running those daily now?

  • Only picked them up this morning will run them in tomorrow and see how bad they are.
Wire bead but didn't even need levers to get them on so swapping will be a doddle

  • My experience of running them in (as advised by Schwalbe) was that a load of studs pinged out.

  • It looks like Spring out there today. Winter coming in Jan/Feb/Mar/Jun/Jul/Aug again?

  • Ride gently untill the studs are properly d\bedded, and then they should be pretty solid.

  • This is what I understood when reading about it last year.

Have you any idea where you read this? Video's awesome would love to read about it too

  • ^ thanks, that's an awesome adventure and a great video! one of them even sported a Nuovo Record derailleur on his Pugs :-)

Lost one from rear yesterday and another one from rear on ride to work this morning but front has been fine.

Riding everywhere accompanied by the constant noise of frying bacon is a plus point of these tyres whilst the super vague steering sensation definitely not. They'll be taken off again till weather goes crap.

  • You'll learn to hate them. Cycling simply should'nt be so noisey.

I use mine on a stretch of unsalted road (its near drinking water so road salt is not allowed). The compacted snow gives an amazing soft ride, and the stud grip brilliantly. But around town they're annoying.

My fatbike tyres have minimal studs for this reason. With no studs down the center.
