I have a PDf catalogue for that Ti Sandman.
Looks to be a full on trail fattie. Kinda how mine seems to be developing, but then I'm thinking I'll keep a CX commuter for winter roads, and have the fatty for winter trails (but dont tell Mrs Smallfurry, she thinks its functional)

I really love the older mountain bikes. You can see the evolution of bike design in them, they're the missing link between a road bike and a mountain bike as they are today. Such a quick evolution too. It's kinda why I like hardtails, that reminder of where they came from.
Damn, I want to go look at some old mountain bikes now.
Edit: One treasure trove found:

Awesome, 1986 Ritchey Annapurna
The Annapurna's were the most expensive of their bikes, and were modified into their C range for competition riding. Usually fillet brazed with fake lugs painted on.

The reason I went for the Cielo was because it seemed to hark back to these roots. There's something really nice in that period of mountain bike.

The skinny tubes of my Spotbrand, with its metal flake paint job. Is pretty retro. The geo and weenie build is
fuglymodern though. -

Its bad enough doing 2.5 hour rides on Nordic spikes. Chains would be nasty.
