  • These four tourneys would have be awesome which i'm sure they would be...if you do well then you deserve the right to play in a euro comp from there, then so be it. If not then you have had fun..

Only concern would be, there may be too many people wanting to play in these tourneys as tourneys are never normally that big. Which is why its easier to organize people allocation from each country. Alot of tourneys max out very quick and there is alot of quiet heads up..

  • True...

  • 1) you gots ta pay to get to the worlds/euros anyway.
    2) four tournies that are geographically distanced should mitigate this.

    1) Travelling to two tourneys instead of more, my point stands.
    2) I dont understand

    • If you're short on cash then you can just do the prelim tourney.
    • Or why not put time and effort into convincing the Euro body to allow your own scene to host one of the qualifying tournaments? That way it costs you diddly squat?
    • Or why not suggest that the Euro body fundraises a small kitty to help fund the minority of cash-strapped polo players to get to the tourneys, anything's possible.

A Euro body would actually help you to organise yourselves at a national level (you'd have rules, statistics, contacts, cross-polination of ideas/experience), where as the country-first approach is not as useful (and would likely lead to arguments as each national body competed for control of the Euro body).

I pondered all this with a few folks when looking into the UK body thing, my conclusion was that the only benefit to a UK body at this time (for London) is a fiscal one (unlocking funding by becoming a recognised sport or by being absorbed into an existing sports/activity/community association). The recognised sport thing won't happen any time soon.

Personally I think bike polo players and the sport in general need more time to experiment and try things out (whilst retaining some control) before making that kind of jump, the Euro body has loads of benefits and kind of gives us an "official" (or democratic) way of organising things and deciding on rules without many negatives. We kind of do the Euro-thing already through the magic of the internets, it would just have more of a structure and core-group of representatives to collate all the input/ideas/decisions.

We can also have big worldly arguments with the Americans about rules and stuff, joy.

    2) I dont understand

    1) you're right, just saying there already is a cost barrier.
    2) ideally everyone will have tourney local or at least a cheap train ride away from where they live.

  • Surely London... Olympic year and all that.

    Surely? What, why?

  • sorry for London... Geneva for the WIN!!!*

    • I love London.... but London dont have a lake!!
  • I beg to differ Rik.

  • where is the lake?

  • thanks jono, you r agenius i like this idea alot. :)

hampstead heath? Or too batty for you rik?

  • ok, ok, ok.... you guys win.

  • Don't give up so easy, Rik. Those are ponds. Pathetic!

  • ^ he just never pulls there

  • I don't like this four tourney idea, it is massively more expensive than attending a national or city prelim.

The cheapest/most accessible/inclusive way is to hold Euros Prelim at UK champs, by just taking the top however many spots we are allocated from the final standings.

Travelling to tournaments is awesome. But more travelling to more tournaments is obviously more expensive.

  • WTF is that?

Snoops, but you only need to go to one tourney, the closest to you.
once you are classified you dont need to go to the rest.
if you dont make in the first one, them yes start became expensive, as you need to go to the next one to try to classified

yup. plus, the uk champs were in Manchester last year. a different city we had to travel to. same deal.

  • Snoops, Imagine that the first tourney is in the 'Dam, Cosmic make it in the second place, you done, you have your ticket for the Worlds, you dont need to travel any more

  • money arguments are good...

Maybe we could manage a mixed way, like a national tourney who give country 2 or 3 slots, and 3 or 4 big tourney who give other slots...

    Don't really know.

I want pic of people bathing in this shit before begin to work on the GVA 2012 bid.

  • I want pic of people bathing in this shit before begin to work on the GVA 2012 bid.

    pervert, but as you wish.

  • One more thing (and I think someone else has already said this). If you can only afford to go to one tournament (unless there is a qualification tournament in your own city), make that one tournament the champs itself and try for a prelim position.

  • my point is we are already going to uk champs, so no extra outlay, no extra tournament, everything is already organised for an existing tourney and we can just take the standings from that.

i really dont get why that isn't being done for this year, fair enough that people want to try out a new thing in the future, but this year, ukchamps>euros>worlds.
