Re: the London bid. If other cities want to make a bid, I can say confidently that you can include what ever support you would need from London in your bid as well (be it format, reffing, whatever). I.e., just because there's a plan to do this in London, doesn't mean we won't be there to help a different bid were it to win.
Word.

Yes, and this is not about making it so we don't have to travel. I am happy to travel. But we do have two courts.

Indeed. Is Kevin suggesting the state should tell people what they can and can't spend their money on? If I choose to spend my days nodding off on heroin, then I will, and everyone else can fuck the fuck off. If I OD, that is my choice.

Vidal: I will throw my name into the hat and help with the London bid, might even be able to get a copy of the Swiss pairing programme used for chess (this should not be taken as a definate yes).

We'd use the software from the NAs last year I think

I gather from Twitter that there are German Champs and Swiss Champs, both being held in April, to determine spots for Euros. So it seems like a single country tourney is the way to go.
I'm not sure if we want to call ours the UK Champs -- I think there are other plans for that -- but in future years we should probably plan to hold the UK Champs as a quali for the Euros.

Germany is not having the Champs as a qualies, we will have first the qualies with a reduce number of teams, only the ones who are really up for going to Barca, and then we will have the Champs, were we hope to see all the little teams that have been playing for a few months
-

Agreed, ideally they'd be the same tournament, this year's UK Champs is likely to be the weekend before the Euros though, so UK Euro Qualies and UK Champs will be seperate events... I'll go do some nudging about the UK Champs, it's gone a little quiet.

Yes. What are we waiting for now? Can we confirm the date?

Thanks for the clarification, Rik. I saw they were having the Champs and just assumed it was the qualies.

Right, back on topic.
Here is a bid from London. Other cities are encouraged to put in their own bids. Can we set a deadline of two weeks for bids to come in (i.e., March 23)?
This bid has made the rounds on the London private forum and a lot of active poloists have seen it and approved.
A London bid for the qualies
London will offer to host a one-day tourney to allocate all 10 UK spots for the Euros. We have two courts so we can handle a large number of teams. Depending in final numbers, we will do a full round robin if possible. If not, we will do Swiss rolls. We will provide housing for all non-London teams.
Registration will close on April 1. Full teams with names of all players are required.
Registered teams to vote on Final date. Confirmation of teams and players by two weeks before date of tourney.
Dates: We will have a vote among registered teams for the dates of April 16, April 23 or April 30.

UK champs weekend before the euros is a bit of a pain!

It hasn't been "signed off" yet. Agreed the date's not ideal, but it's in conjunction with Bike Week and can't be moved. I imagine that the opportunity will be too cool to give up... watch this space, more info coming soon (as and when everything's signed off/given the "go").

Sounds fine to me, but i can't speak for everyone in MCR. They'll have to read this and vote themselves. Same go's for Cambridge and Brum.

And Scotland

No objections from me, and little interest from anyone else in Brum (apart from Hyper). Let's get it done.

No response by email. I believe Dave (Tigeruppercut) is the Edinburgh contact.

The LOBP tags are very fine also. I would have been proud to have written those tags (even though I didn't).

Didn't notice those till now, but they are funny. Funniest yet might be "kevin drugs czar".
-

I didnt argue back and forth on the drugs thing as I felt I'd already derailed the thread enough.
I'll save it for the pub some night.'Colonial Trash' though?
Fuck, you Brits are imperialist low mother fuckers... ;-p -

Id argue members of this forum are a prime example for legalisation. Think of us as functional addicts. We all have unrestricted access to alcohol of a known quality, and consequently we're all able to indulge in our choice of drug as well as contribute (mostly) positively to society. Most of us feel our lives are improved by being able to make those choices for ourselves.
Being able to spend all our money on addictive substances is our choice in a free society.
