  • our euro committee refused on the basis that england polo is now a formidable opponent to London's massive league.

In which alternative universe? From this statement I judge that crack smoking is now very popular amongst spanish youth.

  • I'd look for one in London, one in Manchester, one in Birmingham, one in Cambridge and one somewhere else in the greyness of The North.

They wouldn't need to be fancy tournaments with prizes, projectors and printouts.

The UK was allocated 10 spots, why not send the 10 best UK teams to the best Euro tournament? Who cares where they're from?

  • Dublin/Ireland do not want to be included with the UK afaik.

They might not get a spot automatically, and possibly have to fight their way in via the satellite, but I think they would prefer that to being lumped in with a UK qualifier.

Not wanting to get all political / tribal about it with you - but it raises my neck a bit, I'm sure it would do too with other people from Ireland.

Don't worry, Kev, we don't want you either!

If we're gonna do this then we may as well just do one big tourney? No need for 5...

  • London gets 7 spots, Netto and Fenboy each get a spot, and the 10th spot can be decided by vote. Job done. Now, back to pictures of cats.

  • I think the ratio is the wrong way round, 6 to London and 4 to the rest of UK IMHO.

That is based on the assumption that we want 10 teams from the UK that will progress as far as possible in the competition.

If the agenda is to display how polo has spread around the UK then 4 to London, 6 to rest of UK.

  • Suggested 5 because it means less issues with teams not being able to make dates, or not being able to travel that far for the qualifiers.

Also, I've always dreamed of a National Series and it sounds one step closer to that dream.

    purrrrfect!

Puts on pessimist's hat: Too complicated, not enough time, no UK committee.

If you want to send the best teams do it 6/4. If you want to support UK polo as a whole do it 4/6, maybe split it down the middle, 5/5... fingers crossed the wild card happens and sorts out anyone who can't nab a spot.

  • Also, I've always dreamed of a National Series and it sounds one step closer to that dream.

    That *would *be cool.

Organising 5 mini-tournaments in the short time we have is going to be tough, though. This really needs to be done in March to allow people time to book holiday on reasonably priced transport.

  • They wouldn't need to be fancy tournaments with prizes, projectors and printouts.

    Fancy that !

  • Don't worry, Kev, we don't want you either!

Racist. Doesnt surprise me though - people tend to drift to the right with old age.

I'm not worried Bill, but thanks for your concern.

  • So who is going to decide on this, who will decide whether we want to send the best teams or support UK polo (I think sending the best teams supports UK polo, but wtvr).

I presume we must vote as we have no UK COMM.

    Let's get the ball rolling.

  • I think the easiest way is just to have a national qauli. Best 10 teams will shine through, bring it.

  • I think sending the best teams supports UK polo, but wtvr.

    I actually agree with this.

  • I think the easiest way is just to have a national qauli

    in London

    :-)

  • Birmingham, they have a wicked court.

  • Yep, either we all agree on a split, vote on a split, or do a Euros qualifier.

Would Birmingham be up for it? It doesn't need to be fancy, etc?

I'd argue that a Euros qualifier may leave ROE with fewer than 4 spots, but maybe not judging by some of the new team performances this weekend!

  • It's wicked to play on, but awful to spectate (like Newington, but a much tighter weave fencing material). Maybe that wouldn't matter... It's not bookable, but I don't know if any of the places you guys use are, either. A one-dayer we could probably do. Two may be difficult.

    Exactly.

    I'd agree

This, at Cambridge, with London doing the swiss rolls. :)

  • i'm in.

    any excuse to come back.

  • Yep, having it in Cambridge is a good idea. No problems with the court, no need to worry about weather...
