Yahoo auctions are definitely where the deals are and they seem to be where the riders sell on their Keirin frames.
It's a nightmare to use though.
I was there during the summer and managed to pick up a frame for reasonable money and then bought some stuff from NJS Track Supermarket - their in-store prices are a good bit cheaper than their internet prices too. I just posted everything back in two packages and only got a customs bill for one of them so it wasn't too bad.

Off to Japan again later this month to visit the friends I made last time in Osaka. Tempted to see if I can get Gira Gira to order me a Panasonic frame - anyone know the waiting time for this? That said GBP-JPY is worse than it was a year ago.

how much are Nagasawa frames out there?
-
• #155
Too much, and I don't think Nagasawa does 'privates'... You'll need to go to Kalavinka.
-
• #156
well you can get custom nagasawa's through tokyo fixed for £1700
http://www.tokyofixedgear.com/shopexd.asp?id=2538
so I figured they would sell to individuals. Not that I've got any money anyway, it's more out of interest. -

I wonder how much Tokyo fixed add on for that nagasawa custom build?
-

Sumo, Tokyo - Kyoto ride next year, just pick up one yourself.

don't want to sound mean, but because of the recent natural disasters in Japan does this mean the Yen will weaken a lot?
Next years all up the air dude, got to find a real job after uni. -

Real jobs are how you fund bike trips Sumo!
-
• #161
exactly, so I don't whether I'll be able to fund it yet.

• #162
Touche. I trust you have made yourself very employable none the less, and will be rolling in mucho dinero very soon. I may have an ace up my sleeve too, don't fancy paying for it myself either.

I'm currently thinking about getting a Nagasawa-based bike built by Tokyo Fixed. The frame is quoted at £1,900 - so eye-wateringly expensive! On the other hand . . . !
The guys at Tokyo Fixed could not have been more helpful - so far, the process has been a real pleasure.

My friend will be going to Japan at some point in the next few months so I am wondering just how much the cranks cost in Japan. Also if possible, could someone point out a good store my friend could go to in Tokyo?
Many thanks,
Ho-Ming

Maybe you could ask your friend, you know, the one going to Japan, how much they cost in Japan?
-
• #167
oof.

It's what Jesus would do.

homing, next time you may want to do a bit of a search before asking your question, if you type tokyo into the search box, you'd come up with a page worth of results, which with a bit of work would have brought up the answer you seek, at least in terms of stores to go to, if not prices for the specific set of cranks you want.
I'm gonna cut you some slack, as I did with the DZR thread, and because this particular post, will take a bit of time to dig out...
But next time you're getting left for the wolves..

I got back from Japan a few weeks ago, and I only went into a few bike shops, but from what I could see, prices are VERY VERY high at the moment.
-
• #171
Ah cool thanks. I was asking because he's going in around December so he wouldn't know prices. Cyclotron, is it so high that I'm probably better off buying it in the UK?
-
• #172
Cheaper in UK at the moment, looking at 26000 yen with tax for a set which is about £218 and you can get them for £200 over here
-
• #173
^That sounds about right.
The exchange rate is abysmal and bike parts aren't particularly cheap there anyway.
-
• #174
FX rate is very bad at the moment so I'd be surprised if it was much cheaper if at all.

Thanks for the help guys, I guess I'll try and save £200 and buy them in England then... I think they're around £200 at Track Supermarket (including delivery). If I mainly plan to use the cranks on road, should I go for the Sugino 75s instead? Also, are there any issues with using the Sugino 75 bottom bracket on the road? I understand that I shouldn't be using the dura ace bottom brackets with the fc7710 cranks so I was wondering if there were any similar issues.
Also I am very sorry Cornelius.
When I was out there, I went sniffing around a fair abit around Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka - but things were still so expensive.
I was told the best bet would to be to buy one on the japanese yahoo auctions, (bigger than ebay over there apparently) of course you'd have to be pretty lucky in terms of timing it etc.
But that's where you'll get a better deal.
I miss japan.
