  • We older West Indians, are nearly all Royalists. Ask around.

I did. I checked with the girlfriend, she said you're taking shit.

  • 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s.

Not 20s, or 30s, and not younger 40s.

  • I did. I checked with the girlfriend, she said you're talking shit.

    sounds better.

  • ^^ Oh now you're speaking for the very specific demography then?

60% of the time, it works every time.... - YouTube

  • Ed, would people in their 20s in the Caribbean, have any view on the monarchy? It would be difficult, as it would not seem relevant to them. Indeed, in their very short lives, they may have had no reference point to the UK royal family, except for Wills' wedding. Their version of royalty might be Usher and/or Nicki Minaj. The older generation(s), would have more reference points than that.

  • Lots more reference points?

Oh yes, like the racism of the Prince Consort, the infidelity of the Crown Prince, the questionable financial dealings of his brothers....I could go on.

That because it isn't, they're not part of your generation, your generation's viewpoint are based in the past.

Sounds like the same demographics of British who are royalist.

  • Clive, I was speaking of the Caribbean. His slitty eyes remarks and so on, are not well known in the Caribbean. As for infidelity.....I don't know if being chaste is considered a big plus. And Prince Andrew's kickbacks from sales trips are also not well known there........nor would it be that interesting. Life in the Caribbean is different to here, and priorities are different too.

  • Sounds like the same demographics of British who are royalist.

And the same in Canada and Australia maybe?

  • That because it isn't, they're not part of your generation, your generation's viewpoint are based in the past.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!

    Oh my sides. :-)

  • So back to the point, other than giving awards (which the state could do) what are the advantages of having rulers chosen by birth, rather than either merit or popularity?

  • Oh my, the bunting's gone up in our road already.

You have not read this thread.

I have said, that the stability of this monarch's reign has been a very attractive feature, and a large part of my admiration. Presidents come and go, and most are just in it for themselves. And before anyone considers saying that the queen is only in it for herself.....think again. She could have divorced Phil years ago, when he began cheating. She could have enjoyed retirement from 60 years old, and left us with Chuck The Loon. But no, she wants the system to be robust, and in Chuck's hands, it wouldn't be. So, approaching her 90s, here she is, still meeting you awful people, that all hate her. :-D

  • We are henceforth going to adopt the royal 'we' when we post anything in this thread.

  • It is, after all, our prerogative.

  • Little bunting lady.......repped. :-D

  • Oh my, the bunting's gone up in our road already.

    Oi!

  • There can only be one.

  • Can you wave your hand in that circular fashion Oliver......from the wrist only....a la Queen Mum?

  • Oh my, the bunting's gone up in our road already.

We put ours up a couple of days ago. I can't believe GA2G is still fighting his cause almost 24 hours later :)

Abraham Lincoln? Thomas Jefferson? Nelson Mandela? etc.

No, we can't. We don't acknowledge the common people as a matter of policy.

You might remember when everyone was bashing Lewis Hamilton on the F1 thread........except me,
a couple of years ago. I didn't back down then did I?

If I believe in something...............I just do.

  • Little bunting lady.......repped. :-D
Has a certain ring to it :)
