  • Bernie sanders in the isle.

  • As you aren't allowed within 2m indoors of someone outside your household bubble

  • Oh yeah. Sorry queenie.

  • I do feel for the Queen, who wouldn't. But thank God the period of mourning is over.

Yesterday the top six (6!) stories on the BBC app were about Phil. Number seven was the milestone of three million Covid deaths worldwide.

  • Is it safe to come out now?

The events of the past week have deeply concerned me. Seemingly rational friends acting as though they had just lost a grandparent or a close family member. What is it about our country that leads people to such an irrational position?

The endless royal commentators telling us about how the nation has come together in mourning is nasty and divisive gas-lighting. My estimate is that around a third of the country has gone bonkers, a third is increasingly republican and a third are wondering who the fuck this man was and what does it have to do with them. The idea that "everyone" is mourning is designed to "other" those of us who are not in the flock. We are somehow not of this nation; not part of this country. Subjects of no one; citizens of nowhere.

This country will never be a nation of equal opportunities while we have a monarchy and all their hangers on.

  • Don't get me wrong. My objection is to the institution; to the archaic form of constitution that governs us. I hold no personal animosity towards people within the royal family (except, obviously, Andrew). If I do have personal animosity it is to the royal commentators; the "palace sources" the hangers on who promote the whole ludicrous facade for their own personal gain.

Phew, I feel a bit better for that rant.

Read about Charles’ friendship with a paedo priest m and add him to the list. https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2020/jan/14/friendship-with-prince-charles-made-paedophile-bishop-peter-ball-impregnable

It’s fair to say I hate the institution and the personnel.

  • @cliveo - well said, am in string agreement with you

  • There are a good many reasons to dislike individuals within the royal family. They are a screwed up and deeply unpleasant bunch from the top down to the most obscure minor royal. I think, however, that it is better to focus attacks on the corrupt and archaic institution and not ad hominem assaults on individuals.

  • Hard to believe this is the front page of a national newspaper and not some sort of blog written by a deranged fan with a wall full of commemorative plates.

  • To be fair it is written by Allison Pearson. What would one expect from her pen or from a newspaper that employs her?

  • Exactly, it is a paper read by people with commemorative plates and mugs, what do you expect?

  • Fanfic basically.

  • If you have a child molester as a brother, why not have one as a mate as well? A perfect combination of two irrelevant institutions for which I have zero respect.

The only thing that haunts my republican views is the spectre of president Johnson B. Now, if our presidency was purely ceremonial he would be a harmless buffoon instead of a dangerous one.

  • Why doesn’t the Queen have a family member in her bubble?

Scratch that- it would have to be Charles, or else it would seem preferential over her heir.

  • Nobody likes her?

  • She did, she was attending their funeral

  • That was quick.

  • Dear Sir, I am reading your 'newspaper' in the smallest room in the house. It is currently before me, it will shortly be behind me.

  • OMG. That is next level.

  • Why doesn’t the Queen have a family member in her bubble?

I suspect that she doesn't live alone.

  • I find the pictures of the queen, alone in her pew, desperately sad.

I think she looks small and lost and lonely - and the pics may well have been 'curated' to ensure that people think that - but she is still an elderly woman who has lost her husband of 70-odd years.

I cannot begin to imagine her loss, but I am sorry for her, and I wish her strength in her sorrow.

  • That shit happens everyday to people much more deserving of your sympathy, sure it's sad on an individual level but the amount of pointless bollocks surrounding it because they're apparently our god given rulers is fucking pathetic.

  • they're apparently our god given rulers is fucking pathetic.

Is this still a thing? I thought that died out centuries ago.
