I'd suggest there's more than one snake.
-
• #2253
I'm not so convinced. That group of people wealthy from inheritance tend to have their stuff tied up very well in tax efficient trusts and the like.

Lizard, pls.

You’d only make that once though. The next year’s proceeds would be a bit slim.

Also royalty and royal patronage have dispossessed the people from the land they were born into. That’s a massive cost. I know it started +/- 1000 years ago but it’s still a
Legacy that has forced the population into unimaginable hardships over the years. -

You know what, you are right. I am getting a bit salty with UK nationalism atm and forming my opinion based on the internet/other media. Its not fair.
I ruled out moving out of London quite a long time ago though.

I'm in.

I would be too if it was possible.

Preaching to the choir. Was just pointing out that the Royal Family are currently harmless and financially beneficial to the country.
There is no need for a Monarchy but it exists and that ain't going to change until the world figures out the solution to the real problem...inherited wealth.

I don't think they're harmless and I'm not convinced they're financially beneficial either, at least not in a way that wouldn't be just as or more beneficial without the actual family there.

How about if we try to write a list of ways in which the current royal family cause harm to others?
-
• #2266
they sit on top of a toxic shitheap of unearned wealth, privilege and access that continues to divide this country and perpetuates the notion that people are born less worthy than others?
fuck sakes man, you really can't be up in here shilling for these feckless cunts.

Really this, nothing more to be said.

I'd top the list with Andrew getting away with rape and paedophilia.

I'm trying to argue that the problem is with inherited wealth and that the royal family are very far down on the harm scale compared to a multitude of other people of inherited
or generated wealthh.I'm not shilling for them at all. I'm just more bothered by the wealthy who don't pay tax and contribute nothing to the economy while employing people under desperately poor conditions.
The monarchy is defunct and not that wealthy in the grand scheme of things.

• #2270
By having any say whatsoever in Government.
-
• #2271
I genuinely had no idea that they do. In that case they are not defunct I guess. I thought the Royal Family had been separated from government a long time ago.
-

"It's purely ceremonial and the Queen would never refuse to give Royal Assent"..... BUT the fact that she could hangs over every fuckign aspect of this country's laughable excuse for a constitution. The Australian governeor-general crisis is an interesting case study

the Royal Family are currently harmless
Unless you're a grouse or someone who's tried to leave it through divorce
-
• #2274
It's not just grouse, but any living creature, even if they are a protected species.

True. Might as well say what shouldn't need to be said, wealth and status should never prevent a criminal being prosecuted. Naming no sweaty names.
They're part of the problem for sure but on the spectrum of wealthy entities and how harmful they are I just don't get the hate.
I just have an apathy towards the royals. But fuck them. They don't matter.
It's not like more Royal Families will spring up out of nowhere and there is no backing out of their taxable status now.
I'd suggest that the snake isn't the group of people wealthy from inheritance who contribute a lot of money to the taxpayer but the dozens of richer companies and individuals who contribute literally fuck all.
