Do they show there data anywhere? Is there any peer review? Who commissioned that report - what conflicts of interest are there?

Foghorns blaring repeatedly, random people screaming, icy winds blowing... All the things a person used to the finest things in life is sure to enjoy.

the aesthetic point is so British.
In a recent war against some drivers on social media someone mentioned that if the council introduces CPZ (Controlled Parking Zone) then people would pave over their front gardens to park and thats not good aesthetically.
😂Man I hate this country.

pave over their front gardens
Well, if they want to go for the permitted development option, at least they need to make it permeable. Here's national guidance:
https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200130/common_projects/45/paving_your_front_garden
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/permeable-surfacing-of-front-gardens-guidance
They may also have to apply for planning permission if they want to drop the kerb outside a house or make other changes relating to their front garden. Many would probably do it, but there may be conservation areas or other reasons why the council wouldn't grant permission.

Do they actually contribute massively to the economy?
I think the most recent figures showed the crown estate and direct tax receipts netted about £600m profit to the taxpayer. That's just the direct contributions. The indirect stuff is subject to debate but I doubt they are far off a billion a year to the economy.
I can't be arsed to look it up but I think the Sovereign Grant, what the taxpayer pays to the monarchy, is less than £100m.
Edit: missed the graphic that not4sale posted. £1.7bn in, £100m out.

Map of assets owned by Crown Estate, of which all profits go to the taxpayer.

The crown estate doesn't need a monarch, Queeny technically runs it but really has fuck all to do with it. Keep it, run it as is or whatever, fuck off the monarch.
-
• #2247
Why stop there? Might as well seize all property from people born into wealth and distribute it equally.
-
• #2248
Jokes aside, the Crown Estate does command higher rents because of its Royal status so in the hypothetical situation that the Monarchy was abolished I suspect receipts would be affected.
Don't underestimate the perceived cachet of paying rent to the Queen to live on her land.

Obviously that's the dream, but cut the head off the snake first.

I don't really care, a few million when totted up against everything else we've wasted in the last few years is nothing, but also I suspect that if there's a perceived cachet of paying rent to the Queen then there's a pretty similar perceived cachet of paying rent to whoever manages historically royal land.
More people come to london to visit madame tussauds where you can at least see the worthless parasites in person. Maybe we should give them billions in public cash.
