The pre-race DJ was appalling, and leaving near the back of the pack must've cost me 15 minutes compared to earlier starters. I could've run the single track and North Shore sections quicker than most of the people seemed to be riding them.
Also, having an ex-World Cup stage (DH & XC!) winner win? cough Ringer cough
Disappointed Ed wasn't there to do it on his Globe though.
Pre race DJ played exactly the right type of music for the event I thought? Cheesy, upbeat pop? From what I seen everyone was enjoying it!
I started from the same place as you and Mick, Tom, and someone hid my bike on the starting grid so I spent ages trying to find it and still completed the course in not much over 2 hours. If your stats are right in saying you'd have been 15 mins quicker I woulda been in contention for the win! The winner done it in around 1:45-ish. I got held up on the single track but it only left me with tons more energy for each climb on the first lap. Second lap I didnt get held up as much. Although I did pas quite a few people on the single track!
This race was so much fun in all honesty. A lot of people weren't doing it to compete for the win (myself included) and there were a lot of mixed ability and crazy bikes. I just went all out and tried to do it as best I could, but so many others were in fancy dress and I even spoke to a couple who did it all tandem!
Best weekends mountainbiking I've ever had, even though there were only about 4 hours of mountainbiking, compared to the 14 hours of sleeping, 13 hours of driving, 10 hours of drinking, and countless hours eating!
Was nice meeting you guys and always nice to see Mick back in Ireland.

It was shit?
The Village People dance-along was OK, but I wasn't down with the primary school christmas disco DJ. It made me feel like I was in the local night club in my parents' home town on a Friday night.
I hate that place.

Thanks dude, you going to be at the Twentyfour12 again next year? I'll make sure to bring spare chainrings and bolts this time!

It did fit pretty well though, it's a pretty laid back event focussed on having a bit of fun more than anythig else and I guess the music suited pretty well.
Could've used a bit of Fleetwood Mac though.

It was better after we finished and they were playing Journey, etc.
I get the fun thing, but I don't really find contemporary chart music "fun". Now, if it had been T4 presents SSWC 2011 I might have been more prepared for the music.

To be fair, with all due respect to Journey, everytime I hear "Don't Stop Believing" I want to rip my ears out as it's possibly the most annoyingly overplayed song of the past few years. Proof that you can definitely, definitely have too much of a good thing.
However, any feelings I had towards the music had vanished by the time I was on the bike, riding some of the nicest trails i've ever been on. Any MTB race i've been too has had a fair bit of crap music at it (if any of you know of an MTB race that plays only Fleetwood Mac, Toto and a bit of Kylie, let me know...), but I go there to ride my bike, not to listen to music.
Awesome dude, really didn't feel like 500m climbing per lap!
