  • Currently obsessing over the Swift Palomar rando style handlebar bag for my audax bike (https://builtbyswift.com/shop/paloma-handlebar-bag/). Anyone used these kind of rackless klickfix based rando bags before? I think @stelfox and @PeteJChurchill had/have them.

Do they bounce up and down if the road isn't smooth? Any recommendations other than the Swift?

  • I used to run with a Paloma. It's a great bag.

No issues with bounce, but it will jiggle a bit naturally. I never found it an issue though.

Alternatives include carradixe super c one, it sits a bit higher though, and ortlieb do a good bar bag.

  • I have a Bigxtop one of them (one of these: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/14098886/). Not sure if Jordan makes them anymore but could always email him. Good bag, but can easily be overloaded with stuff -- the thread might need reinforcing where the metal bit sits if you're not careful with it.

  • You can borrow mine if you like, I haven’t used it yet (got it off eBay). Surprisingly big. It’s held decently away from the bars for those of us with normal sized bars who like to use the tops. Detaches easily too.

I have used my outer shell bag a lot which I really do like and the size is more suitable for a day ride. If I were to do a 200km it’s be useful but I don’t see one of them anytime soon

  • Fraid not me. Never owned a Swift bag. Would love to, but I already own more bike bags than I probably need.

If you want any feedback on a Fab's Chest, Wizard Works Shazam, Big Hungry or Carradice though, more than happy to provide!

  • Ooh, might take you up on that. Will be good to see one IRL and see how it fits on my bike.

Is that the Outershell drawcord one? my gf's got one and while it's good, I find it takes up hand space on the tops of my narrow bars.

  • Who’s the forumenger of choice these days for a saddle tool roll? Just a tiny one enough for multi tool, mini pump and a 26” mtb tube. It’s for my partner who hates luggage so the more svelte the better, bonus points if there’s hot pink available.
Would rather buy forum, know there’s plenty of makers but not out the loop as to who’s active these days.

  • Maybe something @Tijmen would take on?

  • Oh hi! Yeah I suppose, I've done some below the counter toolrolls in waxed cotton and also do a more forward thinking saddle bag with a magnet ratchet thing.

  • Fidlock instead of BOA is very €uro

  • €uro is my middle name

  • Really random one:
Does a pannier or dedicated type of bag/rear carrier exist for transporting a yoga mat? I’m picturing something similar to the trombone shaped wire baguette carriers I’ve seen on ancient French town bikes.
Partner is about to start teaching yoga more or less full time and will be travelling a lot for it.

This bobbin basket is probably the best option so far. Well aware any pannier would prob do or just strap to top of rack but that’s not the point! Everyone loves a pointlessly specific piece of luggage..

  • I've seen some people strap PVC piping to rear racks to transport rolled up drawings and fishing rods.

  • Problem Solvers Bow ties are probably useful as well

But then again, why not just strap it directly to the rack?

  • Would need to be 150mm+ diameter so prob a bit unwieldy lol. Partner is particular about such things so it can’t look diy lol.
Was kinda assuming a lifestyle af pannier would already exist for such things. Seen prototypes but not products.

  • But then again, why not just strap it directly to the rack?

Because she’s boujie as hell. But yes, that’s what she’s done in the past.

  • I'm sure @Tijmen could come up with something nice for the rack!

  • Have sent a pm.
The most logical and probs cheapest solution is the basket I posted above and a couple of voile straps for her existing bag…

  • That or the new Fjällräven Cool Cave with the tote (though the name is silly)

  • Thanks for the suggestions. She’s settled on the Bobbin basket pannier for the time being as it’ll be useful for allotment hauling as well.
I’d always go for the most obscure and specific solution but hey that’s just me.

  • Any particular recommendations for a seat clamp with rack mounts? or all much for muchness. QR not necessarily required.
