To be fair though was Wiggins ever a contender for the GC? Yes he got 4th on a easyish tour but since then has not lived up to the hype. Granted he could possibly have done better this year than last by we will never know. Cavendish on the other hand has 18 stage wins and that pushes him firmly into the top ten of all time in terms of stage wins. I think it would be nice to have Cav a British cycling legend on a British team but right now Team Sky is bringing through some quality young British riders who may in the future do great things. If Cav goes there the dynamic and focus will change for stage wins and green rather than riding for the GC.

Sky say they are more interested in the Olympics than the Tour next year anyway.

Neither do I. Neither do I.
Anyway. What a finish. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Just read that back to yourself and realise how ridiculous that sounds.

He was in better form than in 2009.
Contador probably used his best form on the Giro.
2009 showed that he can possibly do better than Evans.
One crash involving Andy Schleck could have changed everything.
Instead, the crash involved Wiggins.
There is a lot of chance in the Tour as well as a lot of bloody hard work.

The 2009 course suited Wiggins more than most, having a balance of time trialling and mountains. This year's course doesn't suit him.

• #1639
Doesn't suit him so much he decided to leave the race?

maybe wiggins will put in a good show for the vuelta this year instead..

Wiggins will never get on the podium in a grand tour.

• #1642
There are going to be quite a few riders hoping to salvage something at the Vuelta.

'podium' is not a verb.
edit: ha! you edited it!

Neither will Sky, I doubt they will exist next year
-
• #1645
Will Wiggins be able to keep his ludicrously low weight and his form through an enforced lay ioff and on to the Vuelta?

I'll verb whatever noun I wish to.

Sky might go as sponsor, but the depth of interest in Britain these days means someone would step in doesn't it?

only if he goes full gas in training.
If he does miss the Tour next year then Sky's influence on cycling will have reached another low. -

not necessarily
It can be done, like Freire with Rabobank. he just used to find his own way in the final and snatch wins using other teams' trains. but then again Freire is a completely different kind of guy
