  • Stevia is excellent for diabetics - it's effects on insulin secretion is minimal.

It tastes like shit though. According to Mrs.w who is a diabetic.

  • Agreed.

  • Read about that^ in a vegan cookbook. Was going to grow some but then saw loads of conflicting info on the internet about it. Some say it's good for you some say it's very bad. Anyone eaten any and not died?

If so it being 30(?) times sweeter than sugar how does it work? DO you dry it or eat it fresh?

Watched a program on artificial sweeteners the other week and they compared the amount of sweetener needed to replicate that of sugar in a fizzy drink and the difference was staggering. In an 8 gallon tank they needed about 10kg of sugar compared to a small bowl of sweetener (these figures may be completely wrong, just there to illustrate massive difference). They also tested brain activity when comparing sugar and sweetener and sugar triggered a "fulfillment or pleasure" receptor that the sweetener didn't, supposedly because sugar gives you energy where as sweetener doesn't.

Sweetner usually used is aspatame.Slow kill poison.

  • Aspatame is the crystallised spunk of the Devil.

Giving up sugar is easy, likewise salt. Give it a week and the stuff will taste so bloody strong that you have hardy bear it. I used to be a milk and two man being the spawn of stout yeoman type stock; anything more than 1/4 spoon in a coffee if I feel I need a pick-up is just too much. Just do it and all that.

  • is this a joke?

    What do you reckon?

  • Sweetner usually used is aspatame.Slow kill poison.

I had been told it may have some carcinogenic properties! No idea where from so could be bullshit

  • I just make sure that I put put two teaspoons of salt in my lunch so it cancels out the sugar from my morning tea.

  • problem solved

  • Serious answer to OP: I always take tea without sugar or milk. Just do it very, very lightly--it'll (shockingly enough) taste of tea. It can easily get too bitter, but even with teabags there shouldn't be an issue if you take them out quite quickly. It's actually quite a nice taste. :)

  • This is the most unfriendly forum ever.

  • Not enough sugar.

  • sweet

  • A Jamie Oliver program was broadcast a while ago now that I found very interesting.

As has been referenced above salt and sugar cancel each other out in terms of flavour- so many pasta sauces (for example) have quite a lot of both in them.

They make the taste "fuller" as it were, without actually contributing a sweet and/or salty taste to the sauce.

About as interesting as the rest of this thread I suppose, I just found it interesting that it was common practice to dose food with sugar and salt not for explicit flavouring reasons, but just to juice the total flavour value.

  • Um, my point was it's not hard at all. There is nothing hard about giving up sugar in tea FFS. It's hardly going to sell Rapha is it.

oh sorry I forgot the rule about not posting unless it said something about how hard you were. Tool

    That ^

  • My answer was serious, I was even trying to be nice. But I didn't put a smiley on the end so I got called a tool =(

  • Maybe the quoting below the post left a bitter taste? ;^) <--- smiley face

  • On a separate and probably more relevant note I've never had sugar in tea, I tend to have some in coffee.

At the end of the day it's just something to make your body learn to live without- HTFU you pussy.

  • (winky smiley)

  • Why not have your tea/coffee as you enjoy having it? Just drink a bit less throughout the day. Or not.

  • I have never used sugar or milk in coffee. I like my coffee black and bitter (racist). Always have done it that way and have never really cottoned on to the whole tea thing. I've tried drinking it but have never found a way that I like more than just drinking a strong black coffee.

I don't have much of a sweet tooth. Although I do love gummi bears and eat the bastards till they make me sick.

Not sure what this has to do with anything, but what is this thread about anyway?

  • Me. It's all about me.

    ME
