  • No! STOP! WRONG! McVitties make the one and only digestive.

  • Anyone tried Patxaran? Nice smooth sloe liqueur from the Basque country. Only 25-30% and an excellent digestive.

If you've got any on you I'll take a glug - it sounds wonderful!

  • gin makes you hurt-proof.

  • The recipe for Citadelle Gin was developed by a distillery in Dunkirk in 1771. Dunkirk was one of the first ports of call in Europe for many explorers sailing back from the Orient, whose ships were laden with exotic herbs and spices.

Citadelle Gin is made according to principles laid down in the original recipe. Although the production techniques have improved over the centuries, we still use the same 19 botanicals listed in the original recipe.

Citadelle Gin is the only gin in the world made with 19 different botanicals, giving the gin a unique, complex, well-balanced flavour. The secret recipe is known only by the master distiller. In keeping with the traditions of the first European trading captains of the 17th century, only the finest spices are used. This unrivalled variety of spices comes from many distant and diverse places: Juniper, France; Coriander, Morocco; Orange peel, Mexico; Cardamom, India; Liquorice, China; Cubeb pepper, Java; Savory, France; Fennel, Mediterranean; Iris, Italy; Cinnamon, Sri Lanka; Violets, France; Almonds, Spain; Cassia, Indochina; Angelica, Germany; Grains of paradise, West Africa; Cumin, Holland; Nutmeg, India, Lemon rind, Spain, Star anise, France.

Citadelle gin is triple-distilled from wheat and spring water. Before being steeped in neutral alcohol, the botanicals are carefully selected and then placed in a specific bag. This infusion is then distilled to capture each separate aroma, so that the intermingled, complex flavours can develop independently.

    Sounds awesome.

I have an ambition to write a radio comedy drama - might try get hold of that for some tips! Cheers Tester.

  • Check also the Inebriati

That's where my missus is from. As an alternative you can use it to clean the black marks from tar off the front of your car after long motorway journeys. But be careful because it may take your car too.

    Lethal.

  • God, I've always wanted to marry a woman from somewhere that makes sexy underwear....

  • My kind of woman!

  • My kind of woman!

You'd lose roughly 40 years of your life before you had any idea what happened.

  • You'd be surprised.

    I've grappled bigger.

  • Tips for the top:
Keep bottle of Gin in freezer.
    Lime, never lemon.
Little cans of tonic water, bottles go flat as soon as they've been opened.

Emergency bottle of Noilly Prat, for when only a martini will do.
Wash glass with Noilly Prat, pour out excess, fill with gin from freezer, drink, repeat.

  • I love crushed lime rind in freezing gin. I appear to have a bit of a thirst...

  • God, I've always wanted to marry a woman from somewhere that makes sexy underwear....

She's far better than the ex I have who worked for Agent Provocateur. She's the reason I have curly hair!

  • Any suggestions for an alternative if I fail to track down more Juniper Green? My local supermarket has stopped stocking it.

  • Why not buy it online?

  • I wanted a bottle for New Year, found it in Sainsbury's so problem solved.

  • Got a bottle of Hendricks and a bottle of Gabriel Boudier Saffron Gin for Christmas.

Looking forward to emptying both over the coming weeks...

  • Should have got Sipsmith

  • I got Hendricks, as usual.

It will not see February, as usual.

  • Tanqueray 10, Sipsmiths and Sacred Gin (Highgate distillery) are my favourites. My local in Camden is worth a visit, 22 gins on menu and the bar people generally won't dick a load of ice and lemon in without asking. Start with the expensive stuff and work backwards, it'll end in tears. The Colonel Fawcett

  • I went to the new gin bar in soho, a few weeks back. Twas great, recommended. Although, having said that my dirty martini was a bit clean, if you know what I mean.

  • ^^ I saw on their list another gin from Anchor Distillery. Have any of you tried
http://www.anchordistilling.com/spirits/genevieve-gin ? It is essentially an unaged whiskey used as a base for a gin. It was one of my favorites when I lived in San Francisco. For me it is at its best plain without ice.

As an aside, I will never see eye to eye with a dirty martini, I do love the kind with vermouth and lemon twist though.

  • Glad to find a Gin appreciation thread on here.

Although I swear by both, I tend to prefer Sapphire to Hendricks. Maybe my palate isnt refined enough to appreciate the subtleties :-). Gordon's will do if whatever boozer I'm in doesn't stock anything else, which is fairly common.

Friends and family seem to think I'm odd ('thats a womans drink!') but fuck it, I'd rather enjoy a good G/T over their Lidl Vodka & Redbull any day! :-)
