  • A guilty gin pleasure:

Pint glass, triple of any old Gin, ice, bottle of smirnoff ice.

Tastes just like old fashioned lemonade and makes you very wonderfully pissed.

  • My friends parents still have a blood stain under their staircase from 15 years ago when said friend and I got smashed on his dads "specail gin" n Juice at his 15 bday party

  • does special mean it has rohypnol in it?

  • Also, dirty gin martini's from the Soho Theatre Bar. Absolute blubber juice but totally delicious.

    Hardcore!

  • Hardcore!

We used to make them with Hoopers Hooch and call them Goochies. (Gin + Hooch).

This drink once lead me to strapping a pair of skis to my trainers and skiing down the 25 step entrance staircase to our local cellar bar. Into a brick wall.

It's fine to do that - gin makes you hurt-proof.

  • So what happened to all those alcoholic lemonades? Hoopers Hooch, Two Dogs etc?

  • They all do that ginger beer stuff now instead.
    They'll disappear too.

    Gin will endure!

  • Oh yeah the still is in action, home made gin and vodka on the way.

  • picture of Graham Gooch

    Indeed.

    "He's fat,
    He's round,
    He rolls around the ground,
    HIPPY"

    Jesus. Is that safe?

  • what say you Gin drinkers to the long-founded theory that it makes you maudlin?

a friend of mine who likes his gin told me the hangovers tend to me more miserable and depressed than your standard issue hangover.

  • Jesus. Is that safe?

Reasonably safe, its a commercial urn with a reflux still head on it. The stuff that comes out the end can be rather dangerous though, up to 4l of 88% alc tonight.

    Outstanding!

What do you do to get it to a 'safe' drinking level? Water and botanicals?

If you feel a bit blue in the morning, you should have a nice big gin in the morning to cheer you up. It works for me.

Yeah water it down to 40% then use it as a base for whatever takes your fancy. Will make 4 litres of gin steeping wiht juniper berries, corriander seeds, angelica roots etc. Going to have a crack at making some rasberry schanpps for the girlfriend and have got some oak chips ready to try some bourbon.

  • Yours will not be a long life, sir, but it will be a merry one!

I'll add a still to my Christmas list, along with the cider press I dream of.

  • What do you use as your primary ingredient? Grain, potatoes, etc?

  • Just making dextose base at the moment. Once I get through the 25kg bag of dextrose I'm going to have a crack at Uncle Jim's Simple Sour Mash recipe. Using cracked corn and sugar, will take a few runs but should be making a real sour mash bourbon in about 6 weeks time.

  • LFGSS; supplying Moonshine to fakengers since 2007.

  • Anyone tried Patxaran? Nice smooth sloe liqueur from the Basque country. Only 25-30% and an excellent digestive.

Now I know what 'JDB' stands for.

    Is your first name Jack?
