At the end of the day, most of the people who would be playing pick up when you want to play your league game are your mates, so just ask? I'm sure they won't mind, and if (as demonstrated) people would rather just play pick up they can organise their schedule accordingly.
I agreee. Perhaps the 'knee jerk reaction' was in direct responce to being told that there was a league game on a throw in night rather than asked.

But they do (and I don't think people should have to re-organize their schedule to fit around league games on throw-in nights).

We are aware that this date has been set two days after the deadline for the fixture but due to injury, illness and other issues we have not been able to arrange a date to play our fixture until now. I trust that seems as we are all friends and just want to play polo I'm hoping no one has any objection to this.

Re: league games on throw-in nights.
From my observations, there seems to often be a fair bit of dead time between league games as the players catch their breath, have a drink etc.
How about you have a throw-in game in between each of the three league games? Throw-ins would be shuffled and ready to go as soon as the league game finishes, could be timed too. -
In the case of JAK vs Degen, this won't work, as I am likely to arrive @ 8 or shortly after, and thus there won't be very much time until lights out @ 8.50. But I agree with the general point.
