Ok, so what games are still outstanding? Anyone?

I think it's totally self-defeating to vote in a rule structure and then say it's fine to ignore it.

I do agree James, and I said it's fine we just leave it, after the rules were insisted, which is fine as I hate to say it, it's only polo.
I don't want to negate the rules and all the hard effort going in to creating them, but there are always extenuating circumstances (injuries, only available weekends), and since this is a friendly league, does it matter if it doesn't delay anything?
Either way is fine.Edit. What would have happened if Margs and I couldn't do the 1 weekend you were available?

Dear Other Members of JAH, and Heythrop Lions,
I can't play this weekend. Next weekend, Saturday?
Regards,
Me. -

it's funny how 'rules' are allowed to be broken. But things that aren't 'rules' get you in trouble.

Of course it's not fine to ignore it, but I could list a handful of other teams that have, so a precedent has been set.
Those teams just didn't say anything, played the games a bit late, and it was all fine.
The spirit of the rules is so that future fixtures don't get delayed, as long as that doesn't happen it's really not an issue.
Obviously now that it has been raised here it's better to get the committee to decide.

The spirit of the rules
It's all about the Spirit

i don't mind that you have gone over the window. But I do think it's ridiculous that the main reason we have split division is because people mentioned the league2 took too long and games ran over. The league is hardly shorter, (by a couple of games) and no penalties are being imposed for missing fixtures. The old, "i don't think people mind, don't mention it, wink wink" is thought of as 'the spirit' where as, (without dragging up again) if i play with diff peeples because of schedule and the fact i don't want to take it seriously, it's considered 'un-spirited'.

I can play weeknights if it's imperative, it's just a ballache.

I personally don't see any need to put anyone out. My perspective was to play when we can all play as long as it doesn't prolong the end of the season. I was told initially that rules are rules, but it seems now that your team are saying it's up to the committee if we can play 5/6th?
When out of interest is the last date of the previous fixture?

Just to clarify my position, I'm the only one who is (openly) suggesting the spirit of the rules says "just do it". I also could not care less who you play with now, or in the playoffs, whether it's the same people or not.
But either way, I'm not in the forfeit committee, so my opinion can be happily ignored, I'm just sitting on the side of "just play polo and don't take it too seriously".

Wicksie - Do you mean the ones released yesterday or the round previous to that? Just add 4 weeks to whenever the fixture was released (2 weeks official window and 2 weeks extra time).

Previous, so until 28th Feb then.

Technically the 27th is the last day but yeah whatever.

Wicksie, we never said rules are rules. What we said was that we'd wait to hear from you about how Dean was but (as we said above) that an extension was a last resort because it undermines the efforts of other teams to get the games done. Then you said you wanted to talk about it on the forum and here we are.
You want an extension, that's cool - wheel in the committee. As Mark says, the precedent was set early on.
The date we're proposing is Sunday 6th (not the 5th).
I'm totally easy about what we do - I just want transparency in the process.

You didn't get all the pm's James. At no stage was an extension accepted. Sorry.
I'm only asking for an extension because only 2 days were brought to the table from your team. We can't make those, so I thought an extension was the next step.

Thanks Ryan
Prav's goal in the last game (the first one I think) was epic.

I agree that we have ended up with a league that is a bit shorter than if we had played straight round robin (13 games in this system, as opposed to 18 if we had stuck with the old round-robin), which I also find curious, although I personally am finding the end of this part of the league absolutely nail-biting.
It's not entirely clear how many games have run over, and by how much, so it's kind of difficult to say whether lesser or greater liberties have been taken. I can only speak for our team, and say that we are currently up to date, and have only had 1 fixture completed outside of the window.
Personally, I think it's a shame that the rules on scheduling have been ignored. I really want to get the league finished before April, and the more fixtures slide, the less likely this is to happen.

+1 on excitement.
The last month or so of fixtures has been really tense and exciting to see if we were going to make the middle group or not, and then we'll have a whole new battle for position come the play offs. So far this format has been a lot more interesting and fun to play for me, every game really does matter.

Is end of the league being held up?

Honestly, I have no idea, because no-one seems to know how many fixtures are outstanding.
In general, I am slightly peturbed that even though we, as a group, said that we didn't want fixture over-run, and created a rule & a process to stop it from it happening, absolutely nobody appears to have enforced it up to this point.
I can see that it seems as though you, Rusty Rims, are being singled out - but, honestly, it's not that you guys are particularly at fault, we all, generally, are.

No not at all, I wasn't being funny about it, was a genuine question.
Just because from the impression I have, those games that have been played outside the window, are only a few and had any knock on effects. I thought that the league will still finish at the same time, providing none of the last games are played outside the window.
I could be wrong. For the record, I'm fairly nonchalant about it all. I'll play with a sub if I have to, and if it was going to delay the league, obviously I wouldn't have even asked.

I could be wrong. No you are right. No-one has more than three games left, with just under 4 weeks left (under the 4 week rule), so it's still doable. Three games in 12 days (when it would ideally finish) is looking pretty unlikely though, with Cambridge at the end of that.
Personally I think any games not played by March 13th should be forfeited without question, but I'd allow people to catch up their 6th and 7th fixtures up to then. But that's just my opinion.
Also, there is no reason we can't start playoffs before then, a number of teams already know which playoff groups they are in, Division 2 is as good as decided already, Division 1 is still open.
The following teams are qualified already:
Playoff Group 2:
Los ConosPlayoff Group 3:
The Team
Big Bush Bears
JAH
Heythrop
+1
But the precedent was set with in the early days of this league. Ultimately, it's hard to tell friends to suck it up and take a forfeit. At least it's been better this year.
