  • So one gobby little twat has pissed on his chips(for whatever reason) and he damn's a whole community of 18k members?

    Pot, meet kettle.

  • See what i mean?!

Mate, grow some and lighten up, there's tits in real life too you know, how do you cope?

  • Pot, meet kettle.

I was actually talkin about myself

  • except most of the people on here who may seem like tits are perfectly nice and friendly in real life. did you talk to anyone on our cycleshow stand Ty? if so what were they like?

  • He didn't. He says above that we were all busy. This probably means some of us were off doing beer runs ;)

  • So people were too busy being friendly for him to come and make friends. So he calls us the most unfriendly forum.

    Genius.

  • Unfriendly forum, not unfriendly people.

And note: I was the one who quoted it and I think it.

Posts like yours, to which I am responding, reflect exactly and unambiguously why we're unfriendly.

And phrases like that on Cornelius's bike, reflect what we should be thinking, and how we should be acting.

Any one on two wheels is a friend.

It's becoming extremely likely that I'll enforce that to try and correct the path that the forum is on. It doesn't reflect the majority of people here, that much is obvious.

  • i love this forum

  • me too.

  • I’m yet to speak to anyone that has said anything positive about it other than it being a good place to get used parts if you just grin and bare the criticism from some people.

Are all your acquaintances too busy being consumers to develop any conversational skills? Sounds like you're hanging around with single clique.

…no matter what they say SOMEONE will treat them like shit and take the piss out of everything they say and ask advice on.

This is a ridiculously broad stroke too. People on here have their own opinions, which is refreshing in the current culture of mindless conformism, and for the most part will reserve accusations and insults for those who need to be questioned and confronted.

Of course there are rogue elements - this is a human community - but it looks like you're confusing the minority with the majority.

I quite like the 'unfriendliest forum' tag, TBH, but it's all kittens and cupcakes around here compared to mumsnet.

  • I quite like the 'unfriendliest forum' tag, TBH, but it's all kittens and cupcakes around here compared to mumsnet.

What are you doing on mumsnet?

And that's nothing compared to the handbag forums. Although after their schism and the creation of mock turtle things aren't as bad.

  • I'm mum until lunchtime.

  • Thread splits work as well as thread merges :)

  • moderated by a God figure deciding what people can and can’t say

The hands-off moderation is one of the best things about this forum. It facilitates off-key banter and discussion. Maybe not to everyone's taste, but there are other forums that stay on-topic, if that's what you want.

I’m yet to speak to anyone that has said anything positive about it other than it being a good place to get used parts if you just grin and bare the criticism from some people.

Really!? Is sourcing some cheap shit the only good thing that has come out of this place? I don't know how big your sample is, but maybe have a more extensive browse before forming your opinions.... Frankly, there is a lot of love floating around in this forum - it occasionally collides with the banter and bullshit, but for me, the good far outweighs the bad, and most will go out of their way to help out a friend or acquaintance. I would say that if you can take the occasional joke, and aren't a massive cunt, then you will make friends here that will last a lifetime.

  • WTF just happened to the last 10 hours?

  • Demerged to another thread?

  • If anyone on two wheels is a friend, can we tell the likes of Charlie LCC to stop being mean about motorbikes?

Also, can we start a thread for people who drive like this?

  • Deadjoe

You have clearly missed a shit load of good things people have done here.

Campaigning, fundraising, organising events, supporting people in times of sickness, helping with accommodation, social support, offering of services etc.

It is a genuine community with it's ups and downs, but so much more than just an online place for exchange of bike knowledge. With the degree of involvement this place has from it's users of course there will be egos and personalities. However Lfgss has a fuckton more on offer to those who participate. You get out what you put in.

  • braker, I suspect you (like most of us) can't see the wood from the trees.

He is right. Hence my quote.

Look at the twitter feed, it's all classifieds. We are a goto place for alternative classifieds that are by and large trusted.

But so many people don't get that far because of the banter. Because we're not particularly welcoming.

Note that is not everyone, many people are incredibly welcoming. But it only takes dancing james or pistinator to be involved for a moment and someone who hasn't yet immersed themselves into the community and who doesn't yet think it's worth taking that shit for, well they just leave.

That sucks for us. We allow the minority to put off people who simply didn't expect to be ripped a new asshole. That's not an unreasonable expectation.

Originally we might've said, DJ and pisti are cool... it's worth losing a few potential people to keep some funny guys. But at what point does the number who never went on and become part of the community represent a reasonable rate of attrition just to keep poisonous and negative comments? I think we passed it a while ago and didn't realise.

I'm really and truly of the opinion that we have got it wrong, and that we should sort ourselves out. Do we feel proud of this place? If you were on the outside and looking in knowing little about the place, is this somewhere with some people that you'd want to be a part of. It's really hard to say. But it shouldn't be... we should be able to say instantly that this is the place for us, but the exact same banter that makes it fun also taints it. Where's the balance? I really have no idea, but I think it's in the other direction a little.

Missed it again Bluey. He's on no wheels.

  • I still want to know where Corny really stands. He's got the title of this thread on his rim, and yet wants to wear clothes that don't say 'I'm a fucking cyclist'. And his non-cycling disguise is sort of undermined by wearing a… cycling cap, isn't it?

Is it: "Anyone wearing utilitarian retrochic hybrid on/off bikewear is a friend, but anyone in lycra is a cunt?"

    ;)

I'm not hanging out with consumers, i'm hanging out with and speaking to fixed gear cyclists from around the country that have ALL expressed the same opinion, not a single person has said anything other than this is an unfriendly place. I'm not confusing anything with anything else, I worked in community development for years, I know exactly how minorities (not ethnic!) negatively affect the majority.

"You have clearly missed a shit load of good things people have done here.
Campaigning, fundraising, organising events, supporting people in times of sickness, helping with accommodation, social support, offering of services etc" You're right, I have missed it for the exact reason I have stated in previous post, because some people here are so abusive that it makes people leave and rarely come back...

    Good.
