Have either of you used cantis? Powerful they are not. Good modulation and lots of clearance for mud, but no power.
Well, maybe we are not talking about the same thing...
I thought these were called cantis:
I had some on my mountain bikes, and even cheap ones with plastic coating are, in my experience, more powerful than calipers (single or dual pivot).
Now, I have to admit I never had any on a road/touring bike, like the ones on the picture of Fignon, maybe they are different slightly in conception...?

I always find cantilevers to be very powerful, more than my calipers.
Are you speaking from experience of riding cantilevers in CX Andy? mine were merely from road riding in general.

I even remember at the time, just before V-brake appeared, some MTB geeks, were measuring the distance between the top end of each arm, and had calculated the optimum setting. I never went into the math, but a friend told me I had to set mines at 135mm appart, so that's what I was doing... Never had a problem going down the Puys de Dome when I was a student in Clermont Ferrand...

Cantis with road levers = no power with short cable pull.
Cantis with straight bar levers = possibly more power with more cable pull?
-
• #2208
Could be, it's a lots easier to squeeze an MTB brake levers than a road levers (even from the drop).

Ah, I understand now, I never used cantis with road levers, that's why! Good to know...
