It's paramagnetic. So no, Ti won't stick to your hand-held magnet.

Please don't start cross posting everything
http://www.cyclechat.net/topic/70066-titanium-bb/By 'everything' do you mean one posting ?
I didn't realise I don't have the freedom to post what I want, where I want. Not as if my query is in any way offensive.
I'll ask your permision next time.

Please don't start cross posting everything
http://www.cyclechat.net/topic/70066-titanium-bb/Found on that thread:
"Drop it in a jar of water - if it displaces 30cubic cm it's steel, if it displaces 51cubic cm it's titanium. I think that's about right (7.8g/cc steel, 4.5 for Ti.) but always was a bit rubbish at maths."
Well, at least he's right about one thing...

I can understand though.
I mean, ti/magnets......yawwwnnnn
i thought that's what google and wikipedia were for...? -

Well really, jonnyrau was allowed to continue with his 'operations' for weeks before he was 'jumped on'; I post a query elsewhere and I'm instantly criticised.

@ OP: Bit of friendly advice, I wouldn't start antagonising the masses here. It will end up with you being photoshopped with Keanu and Leo quite a lot.
Your question could've easily been answered by a quick google/wiki.

Goodness me there are a lot of people who clearly shat a hedgehog earlier on this forum tonight.

Sensitive little bitch aren't you. It was only because I was looking for some more information to help you that I found that thread.
If you don't like it, feel free to fuck off back to the other forum.

Hippy's just annoyed that he can't merge it.
I bet he's tried though.I've not.. but if you have a candidate? Perhaps the "Is Popcorn magnetic" thread?

Actually , the answer ain't so obvious; apparently, some 'titanium' items do contain high levels of iron - an amalgam I suppose. This may make them magnetic.
Since the axle in question is NOS - therefore quite old, it **could **be that it is an early or 'cruder' form of titanium.

Doesn't seem as if I'm the sensitive one.

Hippy, you'll notice that I'm a donor to this forum . . . . . . . and I've never sold a thing on it; I've always tried to 'support' this site.
I'm rather perturbed that what seems to be a very 'minor' offence, should be so roundly criticised.
I bought a 'titanium' axle in good faith; it seems likely that it ain't titanium. However, I feel that I need to check the matter out thoroughly, before I complain to the seller; and that means getting 'expert' advice where I can

^see, you could have just done that before you posted this..
As I said, the answer ain't obvious; I was wondering if anyone else had experienced anything similar.

And what have any of the threads you've started told you that wiki/google haven't?

Stop being so harsh. Pubrunner, don't take it personal. Yes, sounds dodgy. The older Ti used in bikes tended to be pure - minus the aluminium and vanadium. Just hope it isn't pure.
I recently bought through another forum, a NOS boxed Nervar titanium axled BB in 118mm with sealed bearings, but older style Octagonal end cups.
The whole lot weighs approx. 235g.
The box says on it - 'Axe en Titane'
What surprises me, it that a magnet sticks hard to the axle - I thought titanium wasn't magnetic ?
No, I didn't buy it from jonnyrau
