Why is there an apostrophe in this thread?
pffftt
because i'm an idiot.

I got some of the Howies bib shorts in the end. Did a few hours on the bike, Barse all present and correct.

Hello.
Anyone recommend some good sub-£100 winter / thermal bib longs that I can buy from a shop in London's famous London this very day?
Padded is preferable, but if there are quality padless bargains to be found I'm listening.

I can't promise good, but if it's cheap and immediately available you need they might have something in Surrey Quays Decathlon.
I have the most expensive (still cheap) bib shorts and they are adequate enough. Probably best to call ahead though as a fruitless trip to Surrey Quays is a grim experience all round

Thanks - while their usual range look decent, for some reason their winter variants are really quite ugly indeed.
I assume I could marker pen over the white tron lines:

But if anyone else has any recommendations, bring them in :)
Any of the high street altura / endura stuff any cop? Anything I can get from Condor for less than £100?

I have never worn anything made by Altura beyond a pair of mitts, but their bib tights seem to come in well under £100. Most branches of Evans usually have loads of Altura stuff, commuters' favourite innit.
As for the btwin Tron-style lines I've learned to embrace them

I had a couple of thing from Altura, but the quality was shit: came unstitched and fell apart very quickly.
That was a few years ago, so their QC might have improved: a million nodders can't be wrong!
Or can they...

So I never got anything in store in the end - only item I felt comfortable with was the Endura thermal longs, however the Evans store that was near me closed earlier than advertised.
So, I'm in the market for buying online.
I used to have a set of the Planet X Roubaix (I think) thermal unpadded bibs, but they were really poor quality and the stitching started to come undone very quickly and I sent them back - and never ordered anything else as it got warmer. So I won't be getting them.
Anything else worth looking at that can be ordered online? (and shipped to finland)

I would avoid Altura. Everything I've tried for them wasn't bad but for the same price, you could have something vastly better.

Quality kit and nice people, who know their stuff: they don't sell the cheapest, but the quality and service make it good value for money.

Was just looking at these on Wiggle:

Then remembered that 'ale' is finnish for 'sale', so I'd be riding around with the word 'sale' on my arse.

A very specific question; does anyone know of / own a decent pair of shorts that have a cut away area at the back, other than Rapha Classics? For a variety of dermatology related reasons I'm looking for something either with a cut away in the middle of the back or which comes no higher than the lower back (other than the straps obviously).

I'm in the market for a new set of bibshorts under £100. Around £85 would be even better.
I'm thinking of the following:
- Santini racer
http://www.prendas.co.uk/santini-racer-nat-bibshorts-ss15.html - Santini Edge
http://www.prendas.co.uk/santini-edge-nat-bibshorts.html - Assos uno s5

Any thoughts or opinions?
Cheers.

Once you cross the £90/£100 mark it makes sense to go rapha given the repair service ..

unless you dont crash!

I tend not to lean, but it is a fair point.
Still that's another 60%. I'm buying tonnes of shit at the moment so that's what drew me to the Santini Edge. They have the same pad as the Racers but without the fancy lycra.
The other two are generally grouped (on the Internet) in the same league as the rapha classic bibs and are cheaper.

Assos

• #144
DHB for now; Rapha when you can afford

• #145
Aldi ones for £11.99 from tomorrow

I guess I did ask for any thoughts or opinions ;)
Maybe I should have said, has anyone used the Santini bibshorts and either Rapha or Assos uno s5. How do they compare?
-
• #147
Roadie folklore says that Assos is above and beyond in terms of comfort. Yes or no?
I'm happy to pay that last little increment up to Assos prices if there really is a difference. If not then I'm considering the DHBs with the thickest pad.
-
• #148
There's a big step up in IMO and worth the price. Although it's often possible to find decent discounts too. The T7 Equipe's are especially good.
-
• #149
The pad on DHB is good and all. But it's the fit and where the pad ends up that is important. Mine ends up half way up my back.

I got a pair of the T.cento_s7 bibs last summer.
It is very difficult to make comparisons because so many things vary. I had some arse abrasion on PBP but it was a long way and I was sat down a lot :-) I had less abrasion than some people and more than others. They have a very soft area basically in front of the pad which I found slightly unpleasant.
I also have a pair of Castellis which I have ridden a long way in and are also fine.
My favourites for my commute are a pair of Altura things that I got at a big discount from one of of Planet-x/Ribble etc but I have never been a long way in them.
So, in summary, I think you can worry too much about them. Your saddle and position on the bike is without doubt an order fo magnitude more important.
This has been haunting me, it is in my subscriptions because I posted in the thread once and it ruins my life. It reminds me of the mural in the great San Francisco cheesesteak place Jay's Cheesesteak. They have a vegetarian version which was very important to me at one point in my life.
At any rate there was a mural in there by Sirron Norris with a cartoon character saying "Everyone has there thing." I think it is this one but the word bubble is unclear.
