  • Neem oil experts: How do you mix it, just straight with water or with some sort of emulsifier?

  • You need some horticultural soap in the mix. 10ml of soap and 5ml of neem per litre. Warm water helps with the emulsification.

  • I did not know this, we mix it with water and that's that...

  • Thanks for the advice. Hmm, this is getting increasingly expensive. Are there any off the peg spray solutions with neem?

  • Found these little beauts growing among the grass. Scarlet Pimpernel according to the app, no idea where it came from

  • Moved our new apian friends about two metres to the left last night and they were happy as Larry today... Lots more sunshine in their new spot so they were in and out of the hive all day, as they should be... Our macadamia trees are beginning to bud so they're in for a treat very soon, love them!!

  • I'm not sure you can get off the peg. All the neem instructions say to use within 8 hours once mixed (not sure why, maybe neem doesn't appreciate the emulsification) so shelf life of off the peg would be pretty low.

  • Instructions I saw online said just a few drops of washing up liquid to help with emulsification. Something like 2ml per litre I think?

I've only tried it once so far and it didn't seem to fully emulsify, but sprayed alright with regular shaking of the bottle.

I might try a few ml of nikwax tech wash next time as I assume that's fairly neutral/gentle soap.

  • Spent a good hour weeding the wildflower patch. It was getting taken over by chickweed. Looking better now. Loads of poppies in there which I'm delighted about!

  • Looks a proper bit of kit, that. Don't make 'em like they used to... etc. Also enjoying the possibilities of a 'sports' mode - 'for the very experienced groundsman'.

I really want a push mower for the allotment, but not in London so keeping an eye on gumtree.

  • where are you?

  • just for clarity, i made the bit up about 'sports'

  • False advertising!!!!!

  • Bedfordshire, so a bit of a schlep out of London's famous London.

  • Going to pretend I didn't read that. I just like the Alan Partridge overtones.

  • Stripes ahoy!

Oh, and if you are after a fossil burner, you can't go wrong with Honda.

  • Unearthed the corner or something metal. Any suggestions what it could be?

Trying to work out when to pick my gherkins. I had planned to do it earlier for little ones, but the flowers seem to have stayed on the bottom.

For eg is the little one OK to pick and pickle? Or do I need to wait for them to look more mature?

    Cheers.

  • To be honest you can pick and pickle at whatever size you want.
Personally we don't pickle very very small ones, you may as well wait. Hard to tell exactly how big they are but I would wait a little longer.
