Does anyone know anything about gardening?

  • Beautiful blossom.

  • It really is. I find myself standing staring at it at every evening about 8ish, once the dust has settled on the day and the din from the surrounding gardens has dropped off for the evening. I know I’m incredibly lucky to have any garden space at all, especially in London, and I’m really feeling the privilege at the moment. I don’t know how I would be faring without an outside space for my kids to muck about in, and some welcome greenery to take my mind off everything once they’ve gone to bed.

  • Our neighbour has a stunning cherry that has just come out. Sadly he want to chop it down to build a shed. Luckily I am guessing this has postponed it.

  • What’s going in the new planter?

The best tree in our garden isn’t technically in our garden either.

    @Bobbo

    Wasn't criticizing

    All good 👍

  • What’s going in the new planter?

Probably this when it finally arrives:

    But maybe parsley and mint.

    A little closer...two sides done.

  • The leaves look healthy enough on yours, bring it inside and put it in a sunny spot?

I was really happy to find that one, only picked it up last week and it was really cheap, only twenty bucks... It means we've now got most of the essential Thai aromatics in the garden, lemongrass, coriander, holy basil and the kaffir lime... I'm actually growing some ginger as well but that's just for fun...

  • Veg seeds in the shed are proving more successful than the herbs. Obvsious options are; a) planted to early, b) shed too cold when planted, c) too rushed, d) a & b.

TBH I feel like all my jobs have to be slotted inbetween 15-45min windows, so it could be not paying enough attention. But this year I did try, so hopefully not.

Either way it's nice seeing them come up.

  • The Saga of @mashton 's Apple Tree could run and run.

I hope my momentary pessimism is misplaced.

Nearly three years on and I am delighted to report the first blossom!

  • Wow! These are proper quality.

  • Some raised beds with random stone from around the garden by Mrs Nef, and a wee greenhouse/cold frame type job (painting today) out of our old windows by me. Waiting for my chillies to come up - planted a bit late but quite excited!

  • the greenhouse/cold frame is cool! nice upcycling, good work

  • Cheers. Not sure how long it'll survive. Needs more structural support, and I don't know if the air gap is too big. I'd also like to add hinges for the roof for easier watering as currently access is only through one side, but I had very limited materials at home and figured a trip to b and q wasn't really essential. About to go and paint it with some random paint that was left on a job. Think it's turquoise but not sure! Also need to sort some kind of drainage for the roof to stop the water pooling in the frames. Ideally I'd like to replace the glass with polycarb sheet at some point but it's a bit expensive. Time will tell!

  • Just think how much quicker it would have grown with a cat sacrifice.

  • How poisonous is Foxglove? Wiped some paint off my hand with a leaf, only to clock that it was foxglove about 5 minutes later. Scrubbed my hands down after that obviously. Only really heard about it being a problem if eaten - bit of skin contact shouldn't be a problem ey?

  • You're going to die. Eventually. Just not from digitalis poisoning.

  • Take that nature!

  • Cheers! I’m actually most happy with the herb planter, made of oak sleepers which then wrap around the decking and the hot tub area. Excuse the messy decking and also the fact that the garden isn’t actually turfed yet, that’s next on the list when the turf company reopens...

I think it looks good raw, maybe just spray it with lacquer and see how it goes?

  • @ 32s is that "the former hollow"?

  • Ha! If that stopped the constant dust I would be tempted.

  • Do you have an ETA on the turf?

Have you considered chucking seed down?

  • Brilliant!

    Prune tree?!
