  • So the history is the cost of removal, in neighbours property, was previously shared between neighbour(landlord) and my friend, who knows absolutely nothing about gardening. I’ve currently left it because I wasn’t 100% sure it wasn’t knotweed between the stones. And know there are restrictions around how it’s disposed of and how best handled.
So wanted to try check and if it’s likely to be knotweed recommend the professionals take a look when back.

For context because of their professional status if they sell they’ll have to do everything exactly how it should be done.

  • The first pic of the small one is not Knotweed.

The bigger one, can you get a closer photo of the stem(s)?

  • The one by the bike stand is deffo knotweed.

    Start spraying with Roundup asap.

  • Glyphosate the entire plant from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

  • puts frozen sausages back in freezer

  • If you want to see knotweed in the flesh there is a clump at Myddleton House gardens in north London near where the A10 crosses the M25. It's free and a decent place to visit. There's also Capel Manor and Forty Hall within walking distance

  • lots of cookery programmes have been saying that knotweed is good to eat

    eat it

  • There was a knotweed invasion where I used to work. It is now being sorted out.

Related to rhubarb, it’s very sour and may act as a laxative the way rhubarb does, so use it sparingly at first.

  • In the process of turning our sloping front garden into a flat one, first job is to put in two 15m runs of gabion baskets either side as retaining walls.

  • Clematis.

  • Bless you

  • has anyone got a bokashi bin? seems like magic

  • My Australian friend the bottle brush is now starting to come out. Hydrangea are starting to come out too. Adds some lovely colour to the garden.
I'm after some inspiration for my front garden. It's a 4x4m square of grass at the moment with two Leylandii which I'm not hugely in love with. I want to chop them down and replace them with something that gives the wow factor when you come up the front path. Currently have lavender up one side of the path. Any suggestions? More Hydrangeas?!?

  • How best to cut this back? Can I just cut the top off?

  • My wife has always associated Hydrangeas with OAPs at their seaside home front gardens and so will have no truck with them.

  • Is it a Leylandii as I can't tell from the picture? If it is then I think taking the top off stops that bit regrowing but then it just gets generally wider.

  • Easily trimmed, but best to remove it.
Self seeded slides grow at a prodigious rate. Once they are over 20ft you will find it hard to get household insurance.
Remember that conifer is competing with the neighbouring tree for light and nutrients in the soil. Wherever you trim it, expect it to grow +- 3 feet next year.

  • Yeah, cut the top off it.

Ideally about 3' above ground level, and then use the leverage to pull out the rest of it.

  • Better shot. It’s getting the chop.

  • I'm slowly getting the gardening bug, gf loves ornamental stuff but I wanna eat what I grow... Had some rather unsuccessful tomato plants in, chillies are doing well, some rocket is on the go and planted banana and pawpaw trees today... We'll get fruit off the pawpaw this time next year apparently!?! We've got four macadamia trees in our garden and got quite a lot of nuts off one of them this autumn, wanna get the other three fruiting as well... It's all rather fun... There's fuck all else to do around here apart from get drunk anyway!
