  • yeah that's the so on I meant really, just knew I wasn't well versed enough to list the reasons

I think we should all go to the meeting en masse

  • Am with Cliveo.

So many reasons why HH should never close and the more support we have, the less likely it will. Under threat for years, most of the residents on Burbage road etc, equally do not want redevelopment. They'd rather have the end of their gardens back on to a velodrome than a bunch of flats. Which is a good thing. So with us and them involved, which seems likely, we must all support it wholeheartedly, every man/woman and crank. Everything in this country seems to be for sale and it is a cheap shame. Particularly when cycling is on the up and space to do so is a premium.

  • Another addition to Clive's list, there's something magical about cycling in an outdoor velodrome on a sunny day...can't see an LFGSS track day readily running at the Stratford site somehow

  • as most people know, herne hill velodrome has had an uncertain future for many years. A strong campaign has been officially launched today to sort things out! Starting with an open invitation to a public meeting.

public meeting on wednesday 6th october

if people could at least "like" facebook group to register their support and act as a petition.

                            [![](http://www.hernehillvelodrome.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/59364_154809244547977_149464785082423_378010_697250_n.jpg)](http://www.savethevelodrome.com/)

    bump!

  • before people suggest making sticker / t-shirts...people should really go to the public meeting to find out about the issues.

this is a really complex issue. with lots of organisations/people involved.

  • +1

  • I love this place so much, I've only been going a couple of years but it is already such a big part of my life. It will be scandalous if it were to close down

  • I miss herne hill and I've not been able to go to this year as much as I hoped.

    2011 hopefully.

  • 'Herne Hill revival would be perfect legacy of the 1948 Austerity Games'

click on the pic for the guardian article

  • ^Good to see the issue get some press.

  • For those of us that live at a remove from London, is there an email address to which a diplomatically worded email could be sent expressing concern for the future of part of England's heritage and a hope that they will appreciate the value of their part in the long-term sustainment of this facility?

Also, if it would help, I'd happy demonstrate a willingness to public subscription to support the future of the velodrome. Something a little more tangible than clicking on a facebook "like" button.

  • Yes,
    support@savethevelodrome.com

  • Right, I'll knock something emotive tonight and send it to you to pass on to DE.

  • Right, I'll knock something emotive tonight and send it to you to pass on to DE.

It's not my email address, it's the one for the campaign, But they will appreciate anything you send and keep you updated with progress.

  • As this place thrives on lists, who is going to be attending the public meeting on the 6th?

  • i'll wait to see what wiganwill does.

  • can we make sure we get a big forum presence down there, to a find out what is going on/changing, maybe pm the bods who regularly show up at the trackdays and sat/sun training to get them out and down to dulwich for the meeting. With the olympics coming, and that lovely article in the guardian it seems like a good time to make sure that the people who use the facility and want to continue using it are heard in this case, we need to make sure that this remains a viable venue for the growing ranks of fixed gear/track bike riders and that despite the arrival of the new velodrome in stratford, that we would continue to use the facilities...

  • Yep - a strong presence at the meeting would be great, even if it only was people voting with their feet and demonstrating the massive support the velodrome has. If the Dulwich Estate are faced with 500+ cyclists, residents and other concerned people they might just realise that Herne Hill is a genuinely great, popular and necessary facility.

    The bill just got scarier...

  • One of the risks of the Olympics has always been that in the end there would be actual loss of facilities in London. I suspect we still won't have a world class atheletics stadium and we won't have any more 50m pools than we did in 2007; big pools really matter to swimmers .

Cycling, having lost the Eastway will now loose HH , but the replacement will be elite facilites with limited access. Yes, there will be the Velopark, but I want to see the contracts signed before I believe that will happen.

Yes , I know Hogg Hill replaced the Eastway, but its not really become a London track , not in the way the Eastway was.

Will the olympics actually mean there is no real increase in facilties for cycle sport I london? I fear they may. So save HH , build the Velo park and keep Hogg Hill.
