  • Missed this thread yesterday. Thanks for the info.

  • I'll try and make it to the meeting and like the group when I get home. Might be an plan to ask Rollapaluza to put a message on thier page as they have loads of friends who I presume are all into cycling

  • Shouldn't we try and do 'something' about this?

  • Hippy: Can we have a merge of this and the "Herne Hill Velodrome Closure Threat" thread. I didn't utfs!

    noob, friday popcorn time?

  • Shut up, James, and save the velodrome instead.

  • I love Herne Hill, so probably ought to remain quiet,or the DJ fanclub will probably campaign for its destruction.

  • I saw it in all it's glory for the first time a couple of weeks ago.

(from the window of a plane flying back into Thiefrow)

    S'lovely, innit.

  • We should do something the first thing is to attend the meeting
    6th October - 7-30pm to 9-30pm
In the Great Hall at Dulwich College
Dulwich Estates is part of Dulwich College so it will be a meeting in the heart of the monster so the more turn up with their bikes the better impression it will make

    Zeb

  • I like the 'old' Herne Hill Velodrome graphics:

    Or as seen here:

Unfortunately, almost total inaction since then. :(

Livingstone looks rather inert then as well

  • Was going to say should get some stickers or something. I'd definitely be up for a t-shirt though.
I'm happy to help organise if you need a hand JC. It would be fantastic PR with such a striking image. Stick the URL on the back, wear round London, job done.
    And spoke cards, and...

  • In the nicest possible way, surely this isn't about a few fashion accessories?
    I'll be at the meeting.

  • Ken's got his chap out under the table, both women are having a peek.

    Saucy fuckers

No, it's about raising awareness and since we all have bicycles and ride round the city, and this forum has a lot of members, why not advertise it on their backs / bikes?
    Free publicity.

  • Stick a polo court in the middle, then all the fixie hipster activities can be accommodated in one place

  • Shit, forgot the worship of outdated old road bikes

Wicksie, it's not cyclists who need convincing but non cyclists. We would be better to ride around with a slogan saying:

"Keep Herne Hill open and get cyclists off your* streets!"

[*The use of the word "your", within this context, is quite deliberate.]

  • "Keep Herne Hill open and get brakeless cyclists off your* streets!"

    Nice one Clive.

  • DJ - clearly your the noob, or you would have known that polo was played regularly on the track center as recently as 10 years ago!

Rollapaluza are slowly working on bringing it back...

  • Quite Clive. And this would still be achieved by displaying it about your bike / person, surely?

Mind, we'd have to be nice to peds if we were wearing such a garment.
    Hmm.

Anyhoo, I'm only half serious, but shout if you need a hand raising awareness JC. Happy to help, will be at the meeting, would love to play 'hipster polo' (DJ is so in trouble) on grass at HH.

  • Quite Clive. And this would still be achieved by displaying it about your bike / person, surely?

I suppose I could fit quite a bit of text in. Maybe a whole argument?

  • i shall try my hardest to be at the meeting.

  • From the end of the press release:

Design & production of all visual communications relating to ‘Save the Velodrome’ campaign
    by Carl Ison, design consultant

I know Carl. Happy to talk to him about the use of the image. I can only imagine they'd be pleased.

  • I'll definitely try and make it, I'm planning on doing an induction in the next week or two and if HH closes it's going to leave a bit of a gap before the Stratford one opens (plus riding outside is completely different to inside and so on).

  • Stratford's opening will not compensate.

    Three reasons:

    1. Stratford will not be able to cope with the numbers who turn up to HH

    2. The Olympics and the opening of Stratford will increase interest.

    3. HH is more suitable to a less formal introduction to track cycling and in particular to children's cycling.

There are probably many more including the other things that HH offers such as kid's mtb and cyclocross.
