Does anyone own a Canyon?

  • I'm very very tempted on a Canyon Ultimate CF, would love the SLX version but my 'frame' budget doesn't stretch this far... Hmmm

Also Ultimate CF frameset for £1129 and a built bike with 105 and ksyrium wheelset is £1385 .. does not compute

  • ^ very true... I'd be as well to get the built bike, put the group set on eBay and keep the wheels as a second sportive or bad weather set... More food for thought!

  • I was hoping for on sale framesets, ah well.

The Alan upgrade will have to go back to the drawing board

  • I have the Ultimate Al 9.0 sl. Mostly stock with sram force and ksyrium elites. Changed bar tape and saddle and that's about it. Best bike I have ever ridden. Blows carbon machines twice the price out of the water and all the bollocks about a harsh ride is indeed bollocks. Awesome Alumiumium > average carbon. If I was a millionaire I would still have the Al (just blinged with pointless ww parts of course). I don't get why you don't see everyone with a canyon, every other bike on the market is just overpiced/tat compared to canyons offerings. Buy one already.

Note, rose versand also sell super value super Alu bikes at the same prices rates and specs. My bro got one of their xeons and they are pretty baller.

  • ^ thats interesting

I want to upgrade my Alan as its Alu and its very harsh feeling with little power benefit for how harsh it is.

I was tempted to maybe splash over my budget on the CF frameset if it was on sale, my other options were going BJackson steel to go with my fixed bike or chinese carbon... boom mind blown too many options.

  • what he said ^^ Awesome Alumiumium > average carbon

Very few good alu bikes on the market e.g. Ultimate AL, CAAD 10 etc.

  • really considering the ultimate al 9.0 with force......

  • ^ lots of ultimate ALs on the forum for you to try .. I think T-V might have one in your size. Although the force model is not on discount atm; i'd wait till their proper sale starts.

    Also; Y U NO spend £300 more for Di2?

You are becoming more Scoble like by the day - how many aluminium or carbon bikes have you actually ridden?

  • 1 each
    (caad 10 and dolan mythos)

No one can just 'be' scoble

  • Armchair expert then.

  • Armchairs are made out of wood and wool, generally, Andy.

  • It's Not About the Bike, it's about the high levels of doping products coursing through your veins.

  • But a good bike helps

    Also; Y U NO spend £300 more for Di2?

When I got the sram force I considered this. But:

    -sram is cooler and lighter
    -shimano is fugly and heavy
-I would rather/have spent £300 on new shoes, comfy kit etc.
-I didn't like the "oooo you have di2 you must be fast as fuck" or "your a rich twat" pressure

I just don't think di2 is worth it (yet).

  • Did you test ride it?

  • ^^This

  • but xander is already

    • cooler (lighter? doubtful, XL in rapha)
    • already has new shoes and comfy kit ;)
    • a rich twat
  • I'll be popping SRAM Red on the new frame... I recently had a TCR advanced SL1 and reallllllly didn't like the feel. Having said that it weight absolutely nothing! But then there isn't a great deal between carbon and ally in weight these days in some instances? Or so i'm told...

    So...

    Ultimate CF or AL?

Think i'll get a frame size that fits me this time too :S

  • I wondered why we hadnt seen pics of the TCR yet!

  • I wondered why we hadnt seen pics of the TCR yet!

I got a bike fit last week and it's quite far off... Fail indeed. The compact Geo and long reach didn't help as usually you can kind of make it fit to some degree... The ISP didn't help either. That and the feel of carbon on the road has put me off to some degree!

  • Fair enough not point spending that money and not being completely happy!

    This.

Add it to the bullshit forum stock responses/opinions:

    1. You must do yoga to ride a bike
    2. Have you considered a bike fit?
    3. High end alu is superior to anything made out of carbon costing less than £1500 f+f
    4. I have a 't-rex' body shape (no you don't, you just ride with a bag on and have no flexibility...)
    5. Go custom
    6. 23mm wide rims and Di2 or GTFO
      etc etc etc
  • sooo much number 4

  • Did you test ride it?

If your referring to test riding the Bike, I got to ride a friends who is the same size so I was lucky.

If your referring to test riding Di2 I have ridden with it (not just the ones they had in shops). It's incredible, I get that, nothing really matches it. But it's just too much to be arsed with. SRAM force moves my chain about very well indeed, looks badass whilst doing it and is pretty light so I am happy with that.

    1. High end alu is superior to anything made out of carbon costing less than £1500 f+f

I think High end alu bikes (stock) at £1500 you get so much more than a carbon bike for £1500.
But I agree, cf frame sets that cost £1500 are going to be better than any Alu out there. But I couldn't justify spending that much on a frame when I could spend £600 on an ultimate Al frame that isn't going to be too much slower. (Could then spend the money on some badass wheels)
Personally, I think people should only really look at getting a carbon machine ISPs their budget for the full bike exceeds £1500. Non of this Planet X shit.
