have Canyon stopped doing discounts for riders with a racing license? Also - I can't find frame-only prices on their site anywhere? Have they stopped that too?

Looks like they have stopped selling framesets.
This bike in the outlet must be the best cost / components ratio deal anywhere, even if it is out of date.

I want that bike.

I've emailed them asking both of the above questions - will report back when I get a reply

Were you thinking of buying a frameset? The UK customer services are laughably bad so I good luck getting some sense out of them.

Dear Dan,
Many thanks for your e-mail.
The sponsoring program is only valid on frame sets, it does not apply to complete bikes. We are unable to supply any frames or frame sets during the early part of the 2013 season.
Please check back after the new year.
Sincerely,
Canyon UK

Proud new owner of an Ultimate AL. Only spent about 10 minutes on it so far (and I was quite distracted by new pedal system and how loose the spring tension was), but it rides like butter. Delicious, aluminium butter.

Which one did you go for? For about 18 months now I've been pining after an Ultimate AL 9.0 DI2.

Canyon make some really nice stuff but the mech hangers are made of cheese. Reccomend replacing with an aftermarket one (wheels mftring or BETD) as soon as you take delivery. Had TWO canyons with fucked mech hangers (resulting in seat stay snappage as mech goes around the block), one was first ride, the other was a few weeks old. Canyon also being touchy about warranty on it (although TBF no mftr has a warranty on chains or mech hangers breaking).

I went for the Athena (8?). I couldn't really justify electronic shifters to myself!
EDIT: Just took it out for a first proper spin around Hampstead / Highgate. I'm in love.

what's the consensus? £439 for the frameset... anything cheaper but also better out there?

Can't speak to the Roadlite, but I have the Ultimate AL.
It is very stiff (to the point of discomfort over longer rides), light, and handles well. The fork is 1 1/4 (not sure if same on the roadlite), which makes changing stems very difficult. The proprietary headset coupled with the length of the headtube also makes getting enough saddle to bar drop a challenge. I have slammed and a 73 degree stem, and could still probably drop a bit more.
Having said all that, Ultimate Al is probably the cheapest 'race competitive' standard frame you can buy. I don't think I am wrong in saying Greipel, Gilbert and others both used the alu version on occasion whilst at OPL. It is a lot of frame for your money. If you are a BC member you can also get a 20 percent discount on the frameset.

Thanks to the sporty frame geometry with its short top tube and longer head tube the Roadlite is a true endurance sportsman for those long training rides.
Might not be ideal, or else, size down + longer stem (you can ask them to swap out the standard one when you order apparently)
T-V I have to say your frame looks slightly too big?
-

Based on setup above? I could probably size down and go for a longer stem a la Wiggins over the years, but I find set up very comfortable only slightly lower front end would be appreciated.

It's a good deal, but surely it depends what you mean by "better". What are you after from a road bike.
I think going second hand on BR is one of the best bets. But then finding bikes I'm your size prob isn't always that easy. I'm always so envious of people who ride ride 58cm frames.

See my comments on my roadlite frame in the road bike thread- I can't be arsed to copy/paste on my phone. In short I got one very cheap on eBay and gave been very impressed, ride isn't too harsh and it's pretty stiff.

Nice
the gap between your front wheel and down tube seems awfully large.
