i'd be up for people i vaguely know watching me hurl myself up a hill and nearly die. It would be most appreciated.
I will prob ride out to all of them so if anyone wants medium-quick rides out through Kent to the various hill climbs, let me know and we can meet en route if times fit in.

Hollingbourne. Horrible, horrible, horrible, with a terrible, terrible, terrible road surface.

The 3rd placed rider was London-based and on fixed last year. [/forum-specific]

He was indeed.

leave time??I'm not riding anymore (strained my hamstring) but I will be watching. Was planning to get the train out to somewhere 20 to 30 miles away from Yorks Hill and ride at a very leisurely pace.

That's a shame, Sean. Plenty of good years left though…
-
• #44
Yep, I'll be stronger and lighter next year anyway.
It feels better already, but I'm waiting for the all clear from my physio before doing anything more than a gentle few miles here and there.
-
• #45
Lighter? Do you think you can go lighter without sacrificing power?
-
• #46
Yeah my target weight for this season was 79Kg down from 85Kg in late July. I managed to loose the weight with relatively little effort (I'm eating cake right now).
According to Google Jens Voigt is 6'2" and 76Kg*
I'm 6'1" and 79Kg... I'd be happy to be a tad lighter and even nearly as powerful
-
• #47
I'm 6'2" and at last weigh-in 74kg. That was a while back now though. Need to work on the stronger because my lightness is doing no favours at going up things :(

Anyway...
The Kingston Wheelers HC today was really good fun to watch. I've always found the KW's to be a friendly bunch and today was no exception, the roars from the crowd on the final corner could be heard from the bottom of the hill and everyone looked to be having a good time. Even the riders!
Leith Hill is a bitch of a hill for a hill climb, unless you've had a lot of practice doing this at full effort it's really difficult to judge and a lot of riders got it wrong.
A few fixed riders out there today, including Peter Tadros in second place, who rode a 38x17 gear. I trained for this climb in a slightly higher 48x20 and found it a smidgen too big.
The winning time was 3m40s, 4s faster than last years and the course record.

and here's my snaps:
The last one is Calleva from this very forum... not that you can tell with my photography. I chose not to take a close up so that I could shout encouragement/abuse. It must have worked a bit because he sped up and couldn't stand up for at least 10 minutes after crossing the line.
