Wasn't the 2016 Bec hill climb the final one?
-
• #203
I'd like to give racing a go this year. I have 0% experience but I've always liked the idea of hill climb races. Wondering if I'm actually fit / light enough to get any decent results?
-
• #204
Cool I haven't done much training for about a month and a half so thinking that I'm well rested to start again. @umop3pisdn what were your results to get into nationals last year?
-
• #205
ugh, catford and bec are on the same day as Herne Hill CX round. Decisions need to be made...
-
• #206
There's two Herne Hill CX rounds...
-
• #207
Or do Catford in the morning, Herne Hill in the afternoon.
-
• #208
yes, but I really like herne hill.
is the second option possible?
-
• #209
if the trains are running you could get a train from Dunton Green, change at Orpington and get down at Herne Hill.
-
• #210
If you got an earlyish start, yes. The bike logistics might be challenging though.
-
• #211
could be a suitably terrible idea
-
• #212
Haven't heard anything about that?
@Monster1985 9th, 10th and 11th got me in last year, I think. But I don't think National will fill this year - it's very North.
Catford is way better than Bec anyway.

I might be reaching my own conclusion, but Gary Beckett has stood down as the organiser and the county council were charging £3k to close the road. I'd heard that was going to see it come to an end.
-
• #214
it's very North.
I'm hoping to travel up from Norwich again this year with the same bunch I came to Matlock with, but it really is quite far. Still, somebody's got to go and cheer!

I have family nearby but i just can justify it this year. It'll still be a great race, looks like a good climb if not amazing for fixed.
-
• #217
Ive entered reading, will you be there?
-
• #218
Got to be in it to find out!!
If you give swains a go or other popular hill on strava you can see roughly where you compare against others
-
• #219
Dunno really. Goring doesn't really suit fixed and Streatley is a bastard of a hill so I'm inclined to not bother this year.
-
• #220
Streatley really was a bastard.
What ones are you thinking? I'm going to do leith hill again, thats always good.
-
• #221
Probably Catford and maybe Newbury. Very reduced calendar this year.
-
• #222
What hill do Newbury RC use?
-
• #223
Walbury Hill, highest natural point in South East England donchano.
It's a good event, closed roads, equal prizes (and lots of them), spectators etc.

Well there is a listing on the CTT calendar on Sun 8 Oct for Bec hillclimb, alongside Catford on the same day.

Was thinking of going to watch. -

I did know that, having lived within 3 miles of it for most of my teenage years. I guessed it would be somewhere around there, just wasn't sure which road up the ridge they used.
catford and bec are on same day no?
