I have stated all along that the only time I pipe up is if I have been put in danger. That's the difference. If someone wishes to endanger themselves that's frankly their prerogative.
If more people are educated about safe cycling, there's less chance of you being put in danger in the first place.

Are you seriosuly telling me you think that calling someone out (a complete stranger) while waiting in traffic at a road junction is the best way to educate cyclists?

Don't you have a job or something?

I think you may have some reasonable points to make BCR, and you are at least addressing the question in the first post, but you make them in such an aggressive confrontational manner, which is perhaps why, in your case, you may be spot on with not calling out other cyclists. You do realise that you can call someone on their behaviour without using the word "cunt" or leaving them in a shaking, crying heap. Just saying "mate, you know if that bus had turned left he would never have seen you waiting there" is hardly a call to arms, although I'd never expect to get thanked and would probably expect a snooty "I've cycled for years" response, but the next time they find themselves down the inside of a bus they will think "am I actually safe here".
I would like to hear some of your views on how you think we should help other cyclists do all they can to keep themselves out of danger.

It obviously shouldn't be the only way but I don't think anyone is saying that.
It's pretty rare for me but I have warned people before about squeezing between buses and high curbs/railings/etc... Hasn't resulted in a stabbing as of yet. -

I am not sure if you really do, and I wonder how much of this is about their safety or the enjoyment of your own commute (not you personally).
I will share more of my views on the subject a bit later when I am not working.
My biggest issue is that danger and risk are not the same for everyone. Some people are very good at making quick judgement calls, accessing the situation with great awareness of their surroundings, and making that split decision and getting it right with exceptional accuracy. Then there are those that just shouldn't cycle on the roads full stop.

I think a lot of what you've said so far in this thread is predicated on there being no influence or effect of one's behavior on any other road user (short of actual collision).

I think it is fair to entertain the possibility that the venue has changed in what is nearly four years.

And who are you to make a judgement on someone else's cycling ability?

We both know that it doesn't matter because you won't be there.

I am not judging any particular individual, and I am sure you know that as I have repeated, several times now, in this thread with what I think about passing judgement upon a stranger and then confronting them with your it. I am merely pointing out the obvious, ability varies dramatically. Are you contesting this?

Ok, this all sounds a bit too much like dick swinging, we all know no one's going to fight no one. Please feel free to come to any of the beers (I'll be up at the Flask in Highgate for norths tonight) if you want to talk about bikes, riding, or anything at all in a reasonable adult way.

The title is changed to reflect the pub that is currently in vogue. It's internet magic.Just to be clear though:
West Beers occurs every Thursday at The Raven, W6 0SA.
