why are you so bothered by this? has someone called you out for being an idiot on the road?
Never happened. No other cyclist has ever asked me to move either. LFGSS and this thread are doing a good job of polarizing cyclists in to two factions. I don't think that's healthy.

You seem to be missing the point. The vast majority of people that ride a bike consider themselves to be a good cyclist. However, that's not really relevant at all.
What is relevant though, is that it makes sense, does it not (please respond properly instead of resorting to silly name-calling and stereotyping), that when one cyclist sees another making a mistake, or riding dangerously, or generally causing a nuisance on the road, they should give some friendly advice? Now, whether the recipient of that advice takes it to heart or not is up to them. The idea is about raising awareness within the cycling community of issues and dangers which do arise, and trying to prevent them from causing anyone harm.
No, it's too arrogant. Unless they are actually endangering you then I don't think you really have that right to make that on the spot judgement. If they wish to do something that you deem dangerous, let them, it is their life to live. Do you go round stopping smokers in the street and giving them advice?
-

Of course not. But solely because I feel that'd be a lost cause.
I don't think that trying to improve the standard of cycling on the roads is a lost cause though, so I try and keep a pretty altruistic view.
Anyway, is riding like a twat, cutting people up, and causing traffic to slow/stop when you (not personally, just in general) RLJ not more arrogant than offering up a piece of refusable advice?

Is this thread not trying to slowly condense cycling into one faction? Those that do things in a safe and 'correct' ('Have you considered cycle training?') way?
/goes back to watching films and drinking cider to ignore inevitable inflammatory or diversionary response and ongoing to-and-fro

I always thought so. The idea is to bring all cyclist's into a single group of road-users who adhere to rules and ride safely for themselves and others.

Are you doing this with punctuation?

• #4208
If you mean me, maybe; I don't understand.

Is it time to start calling out bad cyclists?
Is that on the internet or on the road ?

... we attempt to achieve our goals of the above?
What's your point? -

I suspect she has'nt really got one........

Smokers have a plethora of advice telling them that what they are doing is harmful both to themselves and others. Every time they pull a pack of fags out their pocket they will see warnings. I wouldn't say anything to a smoker in the street as I find it hard to believe they don't already know.
I don't believe this is true of the bad habits of some other cyclists. I have learnt a lot from other cyclists about ways of staying safe on the road, I have changed the way I ride because of advice from other cyclists. I don't see the giving of advice as being as arrogant as refusing to listen to advice.
-
• #4215
though there does seem an arrogance in telling everyone else not to give advice if they see things that could be improved

What are these two factions you think we are splitting cyclists into?

people who give and receive advice happily, and idiots who don't like the free exchange of information

If they were smoking in a petrol station, I probably would.

Hook danglers and nibblers. Now take a breath everyone, watching BCR troll this thread is like watching a 1 year old golden retriever doing that snake hipped back rub thing they do when they find a particularly stinky patch of fox piss to roll about in.

Won't be able to listen to this in the same way again. Not that I do anyway, the silly Welsh bastards.

There is a difference between having information freely available and having information that you haven't asked for given to you by someone who has passed judgement on you and has deemed themselves above you.
Do you really, seriously, honestly think that this is the best tactic?

It is the internet you can get away with calling me what ever you want.
