Is it time to start calling out bad cyclists?

  • You really think if the majority of cyclists stopped RLJ these people would stop hating cyclists or do you think they JUST hate cyclists?
I know the first thing out of the mouth of every driver I've discussed this with has been some comment about cyclists running reds.

Must be true then - *Bob said it down the pub last night *

  • Please point out to me where in your post you don't make assumptions about other road users?

Of course I make assumptions, but they are reasoned and based on my experience. Who said that making informed assumptions is bad?

  • Hatred reason
#1 Cyclist don't pay road tax
    #2 RLJ

    this calls for a list

  • On a side note a few weeks back I went through a red light and this idiot cyclist got so wound up about it he chased me down and started to really shout in my face - so bad in fact he wasn't checking the road and went into the back of a car.

Well the percentages are in the link I posted.

To DaveH, I am not sure how relevant how long someone has cycled in London has to the RLJ debate. I will see your ad populum put down and raise it with a fallacious appeal to authority.

(It's been about 4,000 miles a year for several years now, as it happens. Only the last two years fixed though; for shame.)

However, you have a point that many won't stop hating no matter how we behave.

It's just that the MORE people do it the MORE drivers hate us and VICE-VERSA at least to SOME extent.

    Oh no!
    I hope Matthew is OK.

What are you basing this on?

It's relevant because 15+ years ago when there wasn't really a problem with RLJing most London drivers still hated cyclists

  • Citation required.

  • Here's an idea, we lobby Boris to put all Motor powered transport underground, and leave the roads clear for non motored transport at street level.
Peds get the pavement all to themselves, and cyclists, wheelchair users, rollerbladers (they still exist, shudder!) and any other form of transport get the freedom of the roads inside Zone 3? A ridiculous idea it's true, but you get air con in most cars so no dirty fume issues, and where the centre of the city is more congested we get better air.

Nope, arse that I am, that's the utopian lego set I'm building!

So if you hadn't have run the red they wouldn't be crashing. See, RLJ causes crashes and plagues and koalas to fall from trees.

    Hope.

  • Exactly.

    Do these actually exist!?!
    (Pleasesaynopleasesaynopleasesayno…)

  • I keep meaning to get some each summer, then never do.

  • And yes, you do see people wearing them with socks. Sorry, Japeseye

  • A guy at uni had these and he was the quickest guy in the cycling club...

So he was faster than the other students and still had crap taste. This isn't hard to believe.

  • Pure depression thread, that has evolved into "reasons to hate cyclists"... excellent, I won't be coming back here...

  • Result.

Your feet would freeze, even in summer.
