• Thanks! this one is 56cm (medium?). Not sure why the disparity between the previous one and the replacement - although I'm gald I had intended to sell!

I looked at completed ebay listings... not sure how i didn't see that one!

If it was XL - I'd have been tempted myself :(

But yeah - that's a more sellable size for sure - ebay - £700-750 for sure

  • Hey guys,

How much do you think this bike is worth?
I am buying it for £110.
When looking at the bike, what should I look for to see if it is a good bike or not? Can anyone give me any othe tips on buying a second hand bike?

  • 531 frame, tick ok bits tick , looks like a decent mavic front wheel tick
    i'd say it's worth 135 better price at 110

check the bearing cranks wheels etc for play even a little side to side movement in either could cause you a bit of a bill to repair / replace / re grease

ride it around a bit try all the gears from first to 14th change up and down make sure they all line up properly although those could be friction shifters as opposed to indexed gears so they should work just dandy

    nice paint job

  • good price, but worthless if it doesn't fit you.

  • According to http://cyclespeugeot.com/ModelID.html splash decals date it 1988-90.
    Nice paint job +1
I bought a similar with crappier wheels at £120. But having said that, I got another exact same at £21.

Make sure you can adjust seat-post.
I just bought a(n awesome) frame where I can't (currently plusgas-ing) and am probably having to hacksaw the bastard out this weekend...

I will check the cranks. As for the gears, can't they be adjusted? H and L screws? As you can tell I am no expert.

Ahh I completely forgot about that. Thank you for reminding be, I'll bring my tools ;)

  • Does it fit you?

  • I have a 54cm frame at the moment. Which fits pretty well.
I am 5 Foot 8 1/2, so it might be a little big, I'm honestly not sure though.
I will have to consult Zinn ;)

  • A little big is putting it mildy, it won't fit you.

Sorry man, you'll have to look elsewhere, unless you intend to take the part off the frame and put it on your old one.

  • I appreciate where your coming from but I have fairly long legs for my height, and I also have ridden a friends bike which is 57cm, and that feels very nice.
But of course I came here to ask for advice because I don't really know what I am talking about.
I will consider what you said, but I told the guy I would look at his bike, so I will.
But now I am doubting weather I will buy it.

  • Don't do it. I'm taller than you and find 56cm frames a stretch.

  • it's a big jump from 57cm to 59cm.

the saddle height doesn't matter, the top tube length (from saddle to bar) does, if you find yourself fitting a 54cm fine, chance are it's the right length for you.

Long legs or not, that big is too big for you, even if the bike is a decent value for money, it's worthless when it doesn't fit you.

  • Why so many massive Peugots?
Are the French designers' egos so big they think they're all 6'8"

  • Because the normal sizes one have been taken.

  • if your 5 8 theres no way this will fit

im 5 7 and barely ride anything over a 52 comfortably

  • buy it strip sell make some cash
use extra cash to buy something nicer / something that fits

  • +1

I'm the same height as you and have gone from looking for second hand "55cm" to 48-53cm. 52.5cm seems to be about the ideal TT length, but often ppl use the seat tube length or some other random number.

  • I went to look at the bike doubting it would fit, but I stood over top tube and I have about 1 inch clearance. So regardless of what he said, I highly doubt the frame was 59cm. Either that or I have grown, which I doubt. Took it for a ride and it was fine, except seat was to high. I asked him to adjust the seat and the seatpost was stuck. So he said he was going to spray some gas or liquid to loosen it up I think. And once he has managed to lower the seat he said he would bring it around for me to try again.
Cranks and brakes seem fine. Wheels are quite nice.

Thanks for all your help guys, its much appreciated.

  • It's not about the stand over height which should be ignored but the reach.

Remember you will compromise the feel of the bike once you realised it's too big and need a shorter stem.

  • Any ideas on the pacer?

  • not more than £850? that's 30% discounted from new...

  • That sounds very good to me, I was thinking less.

  • first posted in the wrong directory, so here im asking about this..
