Still paying off Xmas and new year bills, so probably have to sell my Geoffrey Butler - 8 speed, Campag groupset and guides, WAS pedals, Normandy hubs, track ends, 3ttt, Italsport etc. Can anyone provide an assessment of value? Depending on value, is this place a better option than ebay?

Sounds very strange.. 8 speed Campa demands 130mm rear.. Track-ends? Bolt-on hangers would be a pain in the A to remove the wheel.. Track-ends are fine for track but ill-suited to multi-gear... But OK.. I'll assume no track-ends but plain old horizontal drop-outs... I see cottered cranks.. Brakes that don't look like NR/SR.. I don't know what is from Campa... but the rear does not seem to be NR/SR/C-Record so... Forget the bits... I'll assume its not 8 but maybe 6 compact (126mm) rear (not bent to force a 130mm wheel in).. and I'll even pretend its a nice DB 531 model---- GB made all frames to a number of grades (and looking at the bits I suspect this was not one of the better models but a low end bike boom bike)--- and.. I'd still think he'd be very very very very very lucky to get that (better chances with the National Lottery).. Sorry but it looks like a million other jumble sale bikes...

8 speed as in 4 speed freewheel and 2 chainrings up front.
It has track ends. Assuming it's a kosher track/path frame which it looks like. If 531 then why not £250 frame
£150 the rest? as a starting point. Not saying it would go for that. And depends on condition. -

Looks newer than that.. The bars and stem are clearly no older than the 1970s.. Before that they all had, I think, protruding hex bolts.. The brake levers look too much newer.. perhaps even 1980s Dia-Comps.. 1960s Campa looked different.. And Mafac, Universal etc. which were also common had very different levers.. I see sidepulls.. and one that don't look like anything from Campa.. I'd guess some cheap CLBs or maybe Weinmann.. So much of it says 1970s bike boom to me...

I don't see them..
Geometry looks road to me.. Back in the 1960s and into the 1970s a lot of frames were made with similar geometry.. I have an old multigear Gitane from the late 1960s/early 1970s that is pretty similar.. made with all DB Reynolds 531 tubing (interestingly with French OD) it has Simplex drop-outs and a bolt-on hanger... In its day it, however, came with bits from Stronglight (93 cranks and BB), Simplex, Mafac and Ideale.. Campa introduced their coterless cranks in 1958 so by the early 1960s every better road bike was coterless--- save for some touring die-hards.

Sure, Weinmann brakes, the Campag is just the Gran Turismo rear gear and Gran Sport front derailleur. Agree the geometry looks road. So it's good for fixed if you split the frame. Ends look track to me. The whole thing looks well kept. £400 if it's 531 db with a 27.2 seat post. Probably it's plain gauge though 26.4/26.6 or something. So maybe £3-350.
The frame is the thing. It's a weird one. -

It does look like track ends though.

At first i thought a track/path that had been built up for road in the 70s
Maybe the seller knows the storyDesirable frame in my eyes

More photos - hope they are useful. The derailleur is a Velox from around 72, so maybe it is a just a built-up oldie. Of the history, all I know is that they belonged to a guy who rode seriously (track and road) from the 50s to the 70s. His widow sold his remaining two bikes (note to self: women sell your stuff when you die), the other being a Holdsworth track machine. Given there's an element of doubt about the overall quality of the thing, ebay seems the better option.

Mr Penny wrote "all we see is an idiot who doesn't have a fucking clue and solely read something about bikes one time."

Yet again; assuming you have more knowledge than others, and being condescending too. Thanks.

^^Edward, this may be one to concede, given the photo showing both track ends and 2x4.

The frame sticker seems to indicate that its DB 531--- slanted numbers. I think its a 1950s road model. Nothing about it says really track to me. Back then many British frames were often made to be for both fixed gear/single speed and multigear. The stem, bars and Campa Velox is from the early to mid 1970s. Change of owner or "upgrade" or ...
Doing a quick search...
Seems a lot of British maker did this.. Here is something on Bates
*At first glance, it appeared to be a track frame: The rear fork ends opened to the rear, as with a track bike, and the front fork had round, not oval blades, which is also characteristic of track bikes...but it also had eyelets for fenders (excuse me, "mudguards") and was drilled for brakes. On closer examination, the tire clearances were much more generous than they would be on a track bike. I concluded that it was a fixed-gear road frame. It was close to my size, so I snapped it up.
*As as often been repeated there is ABSOLUTELY nothing new about fixed gear or single speed road bicycles.

I think you have misunderstood me. All I'm saying is that there are track ends - I'm aware that track ends ≠ track frame in all cases.

So the story is a friend of a friend found this clearing out his dad's garage after he passed.
He has no idea about bikes and I have only these photos to go on. Any one got an idea of what it's worth or any other useful info on it?

That chainring is the business. Chater Lea were very highly regarded.
Yeah that's my fear, I don't think they fit on my Ciocc as it's silve though they are indeed very nice. Would be nice on a red one.
But I don't want to sell them for pennies, may as well use them as very large earrings, mount them on the wall or hand them out on loan locally then or wait for right person to sell to for low price knowing they will be used right.
Tx :)
