  • When Skully attacks...

  • Chickens. Not yet hatched. Don't count em. And you started an internest discussion about it saying 'is Camden too Metal?' METAL for fucks sake. Metal??? And you like 'soul breaks'. Kids these days.

    Do one you knobtard.

    Rep.

  • no really, where do you live?

  • Fantastic - no hipsters in West London.

  • aaw, no Islington.

  • Clive is a hipster though.

  • And Pisti.

  • Sorry for bumping a slightly dormant thread.

How does Kentish Town fair? I'd previously been looking at Bethnal Green and the Victoria Park area but have found some properties in Kentish Town that are similarly priced. Any opinions?

  • Closer to town, close to hampstead heath, rank high street, a pineapple themed pub. I'd buy in vic park

Could you make a suggestion regarding Vic Park/Bethnal Green?

I'm making a week long trip at the end of the month to view everything and would love some pointers about the areas in general so I can check out the high streets/busy areas and gauge whether or not I'm likely to get stabbed...

Little strip around Parfett Street (between Commercial road and Whitechapel road and to the east of Brick Lane.) Commercial road seems a bit grim, accurate assumption?

  • "The next big thing, Yeah?... (Wish I lived in Dalston) ?!?

    Bollocks. Plain rubbish.

There are many places in East london that are grim but it's just a fact of life. There are a few strips of middle class delight: Victoria Park, Stoke Newington and my old neighbourhood Chatsworth road but you pay a premium to have access to organic vegetables and niche coffee shops. Hackney Central (Mare Street/Amhurst Road/Well Street) is a good area with access to various amenities.

Thank you for the advice! Flat hunting has been a real pain having never lived in London before so I appreciate every morsel of information I can get my hands on.

  • Dredge.....

My sister is starting a new job on Wardour Street in Soho soon. She's moving from Birmingham so thought there may be some wise words from folk on here which could help her with places to rent. I know nothing about London.
So where's nice, cheap, average price there (if there is such a thing) etc, and where to avoid at all costs....prob not too far out if possible, say 3-4 miles.

Nowhere is cheap really, certainly not anywhere that lets you get to Wardour Street particularly quickly.

Having said that, Finchley is nice and straight onto the Northern Line for Tottenham Court Road.

South East London is cheaper, but not that well connected. Dulwich and Peckham are pretty popular at the moment. Deptford bubbling under as the next big ting.

Lots of young professionals living round Stockwell, Brixton, Clapham. I don't like them personally.

Bermondsey is quite central, getting pretty expensive now though.

  • Um...

Haha, ok well that tells me enough....I've not got a clue about where is what....or what is where, clearly

    Cheers, good to know

  • Does she cycle? I just moved to Downham - very cheap, but the transport links are well bum.

  • She was gonna get a bike about 6 months ago, not sure if it happened.....will defo be advising it though

Well, there's always Seven Sisters - it's more like 6 miles from Soho but with the Victoria Line through to Oxford Circus it's still a fast commute.

It's not "nice", but you aren't going to get nice, cheap and close to Central London. We've lived here for about 7 years. It has a bad reputation but to be honest safety's not really an issue, my main grumbles are flytipping, scruffyness and lack of a local pub I want to drink in.

Well, surely you can't like everyone.

  • Planning for my move back to London, jesus, didnt realise a 1 bedroom flat anywhere is difficult for £1000/mo

    hmm.

  • You'd be lucky to find that anywhere decently central and in ok condition

  • Try forest hill/new cross/Peckham rye
