Bag geek thread :)
danb, I need to get your bag back to you at some point, but if I could hold on to it until the weekend it would be appreciated.
Also, I'll get your number off you and give you a call at some point to summarise the reaction, people's opinions, etc. One messenger in particular really liked the Levrier but as he's mates with hassan he reckons his ass is going to be kicked if he doesn't get a Belk ;)

Those plastic moulded hand and shoe covers. WTF.
"breeze blockers"
Those sales people looked ashamed, very very ashamed (and if they weren't then they should be!)

Agree with a number of previous comments, nice to see some of you guys there and "hide out" for 10mins from people thrusting leaflets into my hand but the rest of the show was a bit poor. I went there to spend money and came away having bought a sausage and bacon roll and a coffee, not what I had planned but at least the wifey was happy.

BigFishBikes are a new folding bike company. I didn't really get their product though. It seems heavier than some others, and doesn't seem to offer anything very different to what is already available.
I had a ride on that, it was appaling. I also tried folding it up, was like an origami puzzle. If you want a folding bike stick to a Brompton!
I also test rode a Condor carbon (lush) and a Pearson aluminium (awful).
My favourite stand was WindyMilla , their graphics won't appeal to everyone but I thought they really had a great concept, made to measure carbon or aluminium or mix bikes at a competitive price. If the bikes stand up to scrutiny then they should do well.

@Velocio - I hadn't planned on getting it back...
I was originally thinking it could be raffled/auctioned to help pay for the site/show costs - although it seems that the site is doing ok? Perhaps it could go towards LCEF instead?
Cool, in which case I'll try and come up with something.
I like the idea of a raffle of some kind, with money going to LCEF. Should be easy enough to do. I'll definitely photograph the hell out of the bag before letting go of it though as there's some lovely touches that people should see.

^^I started talking to a bloke on the WindyMilla stand, about that bike. Turns out he actually worked for the company which make the stands they’re presented on, rather than the bikes themselves eyes glaze over

As others have said, a visit to the Demon Frameworks stand was one of the real joys of the show. I had a chat with Tom, and he's lovely to talk to. I walked up to him and said straight off, "Can you build bikes for big fat blokes"? He smiled and said, "Sure"! We got to talking about the benefits of steel for heavier cyclists. I agreed with him, and then told him of my passion for the originality of the TJ Cycles Flying Gate, and as any steel enthusiast would, he knew the operation intimately. In fact he went as far as to say, that if Trevor Jarvis had retired, and had not actually sorted out an apprentice (as he has), then Tom said he would have worked with him to keep the tradition alive, and he'd build them himself.
I now have 3 favourite steel cycle makers, TJ Cycles, Hetchins, and Demon Frameworks. All I need to do is save up.
What a truly fantastic bloke Tom is. Whosoever buys his frames/bikes, is lucky beyond belief. I admit that I am slightly in awe of him.
This not actually the bike he had at the show, but one from his website.

Thats what I thought - you can compress the base of the bag without attaching the clips to the flap due to the loops that catch the buckles towards the front of the base of the bag.
But the buckles only grip the straps when theyre at a certain angle. Once they rotate, they slide along the strap (which is obviously how theyre meant to move). The problem is that you cant rely on them staying at that angle in a real world situation, so they tend to slip unless theyre attached to the flap to keep them straight.
Beyond that though, I really liked the bag. Light and uncomplicated. Awesome

thanks - that is interesting and not something I have come across - will investigate further :)

Yeah I didn't get that either. I liked the mirror that mounts on the downtube.

My first thought was you would be fucked trying to get to the brakes in a hurry, just buy some decent gloves FFS

The sram torpedo hub (on a bianchi) looked good, as did the SA two speed kick back hub (on a marin) but the SA didn't have the coaster brake I'd want as well.
The Carradice guy told me he'd do some selling on the sunday (i was only there on the saturday), did anyone pick up any ex-display bargains or show goodies?

Think I see what is going on - only seems to occur if the buckles are left fairly loose, they can then twist up and slacken off. I have a solution to this I believe - will test it out :)
I promise no more bag talk :)

Is there a way that the time lapse film of the mosaic could be stickied somewhere on this forum for future and repeated reference? Maybe a single post closed thread stickied?

I'll put it in the first post so that it doesn't get buried in this thread.

all of the windy milla stuff seems to be made in the same small village in italy
even the hand painted touches on the SRAM gruppo
interesting idea completely unique bikes but hey most of our bikes on the forum are pretty unique so nothing new thereI had a ride on that, it was appaling. I also tried folding it up, was like an origami puzzle. If you want a folding bike stick to a Brompton!

Coming back to the plastic molded things, I remembered this from BSNYC.
So you can make your own! I'm still going with gloves though.

That's really good, much cheaper than trying to get a decent skiing glove just so it'll be slightly warm in the coldest of winter.

So what happened to you Ed? I heard someone got chased out by security for using your pass.
We laughed...

• #1098
Did he got chased out? hah! I lend him the pass so he can pop round on Saturday.

had a great time at the show, nice to see some good forum people and see the slightly shy, standing on the edge, afraid to ask a question, but staring at the bikes and awesome mosaic wall punter, before launching into the spiel and drawing them into the awesomeness that is the forum.
Plenty of lurkers who read and gain knowledge without actually signing up, I'm hoping that our presence on the bike show floor, converted some lurkers into fully fledged opinionated members. -

we did laugh ed.
Everytime we came in or out through the exhibitors security gate the guard mumbled "edscoble" to see who's head would turn instinctively. right funny
