When I click on an uploaded image which opens up in a new page and then click the back page arrow I get sent back to what was the first unread post in the thread and not the post with the picture I clicked on. Is this a fault and can it be rectified?

The address you go back to contains an 'anchor' (the bit after # in the page address) to let your browser know where to automatically scroll to. The anchor will usually be the first unread post, as that's the link you clicked to load the page, so the browser sees that anchor again when you click back and goes to the relevant point in the page.
