  • Saffas have never had any sense so have never needed that term.

  • But they did have the benefit of being part of the British Empire, so there ought to be plenty of knowledge of Imperial measure among the grown-ups.

  • Metric all the way damn you all! I'll not budge an inch on this matter!

  • Are you sticking your foot in?

  • Putting my foot down. If the issue was put to the vote, metric would win by a country mile!

  • I'm with you on that one, the whole nine yards.

  • Which in some case could be the whole courtyard.

  • Could the word "specific" in the title of this auction be changed to "frame" please?

I've got to hand it to you, but I don't think it will last furlong.

  • You know what we do to metric lovers in this country?

    Stone them!

  • I can get stoned all by myself, but thanks for the offer.

    Sure - metric rule(r)s!

But... any person with a bit of sense knows roughly what an ounce is. And a pound, mile, foot, yard and so on. In olden days most of Europe had mixed systems and odd coinage.

Thinking when I can pop that line in a conversation

  • I'm sure your audience must be quite limited.

  • You'd be surprised

  • Not if you're Australian.

Business meetings, pub with friends, cinema popcorn girls, flights, the Tube, phone convo with Mum, doctors appointment, Mormon door knockers..

seismometers we use are very sensitive. They can detect motions that are much smaller than the thickness of a sheet of paper
