The two culprits, skoota & chukker have been feuding on & off for months, but it's gone over the edge, and has gotten seriously unpleasant.

None of the polo mods are likely to step in, so can I ask for someone outside the polo forum to chill this shit out by suspending both of them for a week?

I really don't think it was sorted out. It wouldn't matter so much if the thread was irrelevant, ie a football thread, but it isn't, it's a thread that nearly all the polo players have to check from time to time.
