  • My thread has been closed? Not sure why..

    https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/356126

  • This happens occasionally, I've never understood it. I used to think fat-fingering... but I've been more inclined to think it's your browser trying to be clever in some way that submits a form (it shouldn't do this... but it makes more sense that it's this than someone fat-fingering the close button).

    Anyhow, now open.

  • Not counting as spam.

It's not bulk (cannot find it on other forums), it is personalised (seems to be London based and actually aiming at cyclists)... the only part of the definition of spam is the unsolicited bit... but then, most opinions on here are šŸ¤£ So at the moment, based on that one message, it's not exactly a great start but I'll hold on the ban hammer for a little to see what happens next.

  • Could there be a forum for services and products made by forum members? We have various people making things - belts bags leather goods etc etc.

  • There are such threads in classifieds... unsure where else you might expect them to be.

@Velocio please can you un-delete his last sales post description then ban the weasel cunt?

  • ^ seconded - that was a particularly ridiculous attempted flip

  • The ban hammer nukes totally not partially... so the last posts were also nuked.

But yup... that was particularly bad.

  • Ah in the past you had deleted users but left their posts as a warning of your all powerful god like forum power which I found effective. But yeah, either way.

  • My options are:

    1. Nuke user and posts - makes conversations they've participated in non-sensical but cleans up self-contained stuff
    2. Delete user and re-attribute existing posts to the @deleted user - good for making sense of existing conversations, but doesn't show who said it
    3. Locking a thread - but they can still PM people and start new threads
    4. Locking a thread and banning from a part of the forum - but they can still PM people
    5. Something bespoke - but I might fuck it up by running SQL in production

#1 is the easiest... so if I am going to ban and they've only got a few things... I just ban and nuke.

  • What was being flipped?

  • A Cannondale Track frame that had been bought apparently from instagram last week for Ā£1250 and was now being sold on here for Ā£2300

  • An absolutely battered cannondale track bought for about Ā£1200 a week ago for Ā£2300 šŸ˜‚

    Fair enough bossman @Velocio

    Beat to it by phil

  • I would have loved to own that frame to be honest but not for anything near Ā£1250, let alone Ā£2300

  • Seller had deleted the first post and replaced with ā€œSoldā€

    Maybe @Lynchman bought it.

  • Lynchman is too busy catfishing & grief farming on reddit to beik any more

  • I am reporting a post which violates the LFGSS Website Rules on flaming, i.e.,"Advertising, spamming, trolling and flaming is not allowed.":
    https://www.lfgss.com/comments/15679980

In that thread I raised an objection that the response constituted online bullying abuse, but no action has been taken.

  • Unsure what you're expecting here... a reply with a couple of swear words is hardly flaming, spamming, or trolling.

Sure it's a shit response, and perhaps he was having a bad day.

This forum doesn't prohibit swearing though, and unless there's a lot more context a single reply is hardly bullying or flaming. There's no physical threats here, no encouragement to harm... just a person appearing to have a bad day who vented a bit online, and then you've taken offense and you expect... ?

Generally this place is what we make it, and this isn't reflective of tester's character in general so looks like an outlier event. In that reading I don't buy that it's violating a rule... it's just an unkind response. Your choice is to interpret the message with kindness and be generous, or perhaps you're having a bad time too and so it feels hard for you and that isn't where your head is at... that's OK, everyone has a tough time... and if people do get to you, put them on ignore, i.e. visit his profile https://www.lfgss.com/profiles/55593/ and click "ignore" and you will never have to see their posts again.

If you think I've got this wrong... fine... but I won't be changing the forum moderation to be hyper sensitive to this stuff as I've done that in the past on other sites I've run and what it does is bury the real bullying and malicious behaviour such that it cannot be addressed. On this site we leave most things and draw the lines where it goes into actual discrimination, physical threats, illegal behaviour... or someone is contributing almost exclusively negativity, i.e. only present on 1-2 threads, recently registered, and just causing arguments everywhere.

For what you've reported, this is not going to result in any action on my part.

  • Thank you for taking the time to respond, though our understandings of acceptable online standards of behaviour clearly differ. I felt that I should at least report the remark, even if you chose to take it no further.
