I have banned @diable for trolling, and his alias @user67596 .

I have also taken the step of deleting all of his content, which means the "What is the law" thread has been deleted.

I read that thread fully, and whilst some reasonable comments existed in there... those only existed in response to trollish comments predominantly by diable.

diable made the claim that I had banned him for being racist, but I did not. The trolling was the entire reason.

diable also made a show of saying that he had donated and demands a refund. I'll note a few things: In the T&Cs and also donations page I note that subsequently being banned isn't a reason for a refund, and that donations cover services already received and not future services... so we do not refund. That said, I went and had a look, and for his Yahoo email (the only one I know that has PayPal associated with it) I could only find a purchase of a T-shirt, and a small donation in 2009. I know of no donation that I could refund even if I wanted to.

As for the cycling debate... let's not have it. Everyone here knows the law, two braking methods required, one on each wheel. No-one can say they're unaware.

Why did you delete all his posts? As far as I remember, he only started trolling very recently.

I have no particular brief to value them, but it just leaves a bit of a hole in the forum. (Not that it's a collaborative literary masterwork for the ages.)

Bit annoying if you had a transaction in progress and a PM with personal details or similar that you'd not put elsewhere. I don't see why you couldn't have limited the deletion to the thread in question and not everything.

No I didn't but there's nothing to say other people aren't using PMs to sort stuff out unrelated to Classifieds. Seems excessive and veers too far into unnecessary censorship in my mind but it's your hammer...

The reason I deleted content is because it was quite inflammatory and I didn't want it left there reflecting against the community (which it definitely was doing as his trolling gave rise to the quoted posts from this forum that appeared in the press in the last week).

Not having a nuanced means to say "delete only that stuff and it's impact" I used the same method as banning spammers, which nukes the content.

In future I'll attempt to only remote impactful trolling and to ban the account, and not to remove any other content.
