  • @bothwell and @hats agreed to that 'suggestion' rather quickly, I thought..?

  • Erm...Whilst I don't in anyway agree with ABC News this is kind of cheap. I mean....really cheap.

  • I really don't get what business any males have going in there.

  • I am actually a bit miffed about this, we weren't consulted. I don't mind being a mod; I do mind Ed suggesting that Boffers and I would like to do it and it being actioned without us being asked. Way to go, empowering the ladies!!

  • Sorry about that, would have thought VB ask you two first beforehand.

  • I am actually a bit miffed about this, we weren't consulted.

I hate to say it, but ditto, except I do mind being a mod. I was going to reply to ed's suggestion with a general flavour of "ugh, no" but figured I'd leave it until my lunchbreak because it'd mean another argument / case-stating effort which is tiring, man. So tiring. I don't really want to be an enforcer of Other People's Opinions, especially when I like to be quite upfront about My Opinions, and this compromises my ability to do that. To be able to use any of those malign powers, I'd need to pipe down about what I think as a member of the community. I can't do both simultaneously, so I'd need to either be quiet and hope other people take up the Mantle Of Having Opinions so I can act on them, or Have Public Opinions That Won't Be Acted On because of the baggage that comes with having powers to enforce.

  • Because men can be just as construtive to the encouragement of women's cycling as women can be?
Because some men may have partners /wives/daughters that ride?

  • My girlfriend knows how to use a web browser, I'm sure she could find the forum for herself.

  • I went in to ask about a last-minute purchase of ladies bibs, it went fine.

Seems a bit obtuse to insist that Miss Hammer signs up for the forum and asks herself...

  • That's not what obtuse means but yeah you have a point.

  • You're right but I couldn't think of the correct word - jobsworth/time-wastey/pointless ?

  • I really cannot be bothered to have this debate again. In summary, if men want to post in the ladies subforum to ask a question, that's fine; if they want to contribute to a debate in a meaningful way, that's also fine; if they want to willy wave with their superior knowledge of everything, they probably shouldn't; if they want to send creepy PMs to people who've specifically asked them to back out of a ladies-specific thread, they can fuck off.

  • I don't think I put into question whether women could find the forum by themselves or not.

  • Just for the avoidance of doubt: "contributing to a debate in a meaningful way" is not done by posting "women have tits so they should get them out", or any similar configuration, in any of the threads there, and then defending yourself with "lol but that's just my opinion".

That should really go without saying, but as ABCNews has actually tried that one already maybe it's not as clear as it should be.

  • Yeah, I know, but I am being unnecessarily belligerent.

  • WE HAVE A WINNER.
    Well we should.

  • Personally, I think Ed and James should be made mods.

  • The fact I have a girlfriend or that fact she's internet savvy?

  • Internet savvy.

  • She's not really, she's didn't even know how to post on twitter....lol!
