The word "lady" generally came from the status of her husband, being that of a gentleman or lord.
Did it? What about female aristos, or women given the title, or women where the correct term of address for their rank is Lady?Or Ladies Gaga, Sovereign, Luck and Miss Keir?

The honorific title of lady still refers to a man's status.
As for mythology and music, kinda superfluous to the conversation.

"I'll definitely keep stirring. Especially as I started it."
Ftfy.

Surely the honorific lady attached to a man is The Lady whereas an honorific in its own right is Lady.
Eg The Lady Velocio would be the wife of supreme overloard Velocio whereas Lady Bothwell would be her grace banging on about the ruddy jerseys.

Either way, still out-dated.

Sounds like she's done alright for herself, could be aspirational could'nt it?
What do you call someone married to a male peasant? Unlucky?Well I consider myself a bit more edumacated, I never knew 'lady' was considered sexist. If I stumbled across a 'ladies drinks' night and greeted them hello ladies, still sounds nicer than hello women, but thats just my view, and I'm from olden times...

Pipe down, the men haven't finished debating yet. We'll tell you when it's time for you to express the opinion we have decided you have.

Well, 'ladies' was chosen by Nhatt and clefty, if I recall correctly. I think they explained their reasoning at the time.
We should keep it and call male forumengers 'LFGSS laddies'. That way, we can say that, phonetically at least, the word for the men is derived from 'ladies', by way of a stupid pun. Oh, you're welcome.

Gentleladdies have an odd ring to it.
-
• #12667
I refuse to be referred to as a laddie or a lad.
Mainly on grounds of stereotype

We'll just have to be rough, then.

I'll settle for being called a dude.
Have we had that yet?

dude work for both sexes.
Problem solved.
No need to thank me.

I arrived at my goddaughter's 10th birthday party and accidentally greeted everybody with a laconic 'alright, you mofos'
It seemed to work for both sexes and different ages

One day I shall successfully petition for "LFGSS Ladies" to be called "Women of LFGSS".
If you're going to "successfully petition" for it (a little presumptuous, perhaps) it would be nice if you read the reasonably extensive discussions surrounding the choice and the current existence of "LFGSS Ladies" as a name. Really.
-
• #12674
I mean really, Velocio. Fuck you. "Successfully petition"? Really ?
-
• #12675
Perhaps you might like to discuss with us the reasons why you feel Women of LFGSS is more appropriate.
I think a word means what it is taken to mean. It is unlikely that when I refer to someone as a lady they would think I was referring to them as the property of a man. I'm sure there are other words with dated origins which are now harmless.
