The image was cleared for use on major news outlets, I don't understand why LFGSS would need to censor it.

Because while some people can look at it and not feel too traumatised, some might be different. Judging by the reaction of the thread, others think the same. Who said anything about censorship? Banning any kind of association to it would be censorship. Linking to it allows the viewer to make up their own mind rather than stumbling across it while scrolling through a thread on a cycling forum.

It's in the news thread, where you can reasonably expect to see images that may in the news.

I can't see why courtesy is needed. Anyone who consumes news (everyone) has seen worse before will in future (such is the way of life).

i thought moderation here was based on lfgss members mores, not external cultural ones.

Even that Welsh chap on the BBC just now warned that the upcoming footage might be distressing, giving viewers of THE news the chance to not view the images.

This comes on the back of multiples warnings about cock photos and .gif files, and the posting of an excerpt from a porn movie yesterday.

I gave him a very strong warning, and told him not to test where the line is but to stop posting any content that involves cocks, porn, etc. Then after he'd apologised and I thought, great... no issue here, I go off to bed and he then posts in the memes thread a cartoon featuring a cock, i.e. testing the line.

The line is pretty much that whilst this is a cycling site, and off-topic things are fine within a larger context... that continually posting unsavoury things really isn't fine. This remains a community around cycling, and there are enough porn sites on the internet or places like 4chan if people feel such a need.

I hate doing this, but it seems a few people have got the wrong message. I know I'm forgiving as hell, and that I generally let most things fly... but as a metaphor for this, I'm basically like a police force that issues lots of statements but won't actually arrest anyone for anything, over time more and more people seem to think that this means that as nothing is being enforced that there are no rules and no-one needs to show consideration for others. The worst offenders then feel that they can act with impunity, and as others see that happening more and more people copy that behaviour as it seems to be the accepted one.

The real problem is that as this cycle happens, the people who are into bikes and stuff, they get tired of this, and they slowly leave the site. They're here to talk with friends and others about bikes. Not to argue, or see cock photos, or anything.

This is a place for people into bikes first and foremost, and the off-topic stuff is natural as there's only so much to be said that is on-topic. But... it's a place that is a sanctuary away from the bullshit of life, where you can just enjoy being around other people into bikes and cycling. So everyone needs to be considerate of that... the extremes that have emerged recently, of a few angry people, jackasses, and the inconsiderate jokers... that really ruins the sense of this being a sanctuary for people who love cycling and live cycling.

The answer to the question of where the line is... to those few who constantly want to find out... it's probably behind you. There's only a handful of people who seem to have an issue with being a decent human being, and whilst I may have just ignored it to date and sought to give people time to be corrected by others telling you... look, if you're going to ignore the feedback that so many people give, I probably am going to end up taking action.

Ultimately, what is the point of LFGSS? It isn't to provide a 4chan for cyclists (though that does sound tempting and fun), it is to unite people who share a love of cycling. And if your posts are detracting from that... well, just don't make those posts.

It's only for 7 days. Just enough time for him to maybe get the message not to post NSFW images, cock shots and porn.

Apparently just telling him not to isn't enough, as he just seemed to think it was all part of a funny joke.

Hope he can chill it enough, would hate to see him leave. I miss quite a few of the characters on here, mrSmyth etc, who makes the place what it is / was. I even miss marcom sometimes, but he was a right pain sometimes.

What grates me the most is that they keep wasting Velocios time as he has to sort it out every time. This forum is such a corker, so much knowledge, good times, friendships being made etc, all for free. At the very least we should respect the few rules there are and not take this place for granted.
